MARYSVILLE (AP) Honda is reducing Accord and Civic output as consumers continue to prefer SUVs and trucks.
The Marysville assembly plant’s second shift manufacturing line will be temporarily shut down in August, according to the Japanese carmaker. Production is anticipated to get back up in a few years.
According to Honda, the line that is being shut down produces around 55,000 cars annually, the most of which are Accords.
Additionally, a portion of the Marysville plant’s CR-V small SUV production will be transferred to a plant in Greensburg, Indiana, where the compact Civic’s output would be decreased.
There won’t be any layoffs, a corporate spokeswoman claims, although certain employees may be eligible for voluntary buyouts from Honda.
