As hopped-up repmobiles and road-going motorsport refugees, BMW M initially stood for both track prowess and office car park status, all of which were no less than the top driver’s vehicles of their respective classes. The current M3 boasts more visual attitude than the original M1 supercar, but homologation specials aren’t exactly flying off the shelves these days. Nevertheless, BMW M continues to prioritize the driver. What are the best M automobiles ever produced, though, in this year marking the 50th anniversary of the German-English alphabet’s quickest letter? We’ve attempted to tally them down.

There may be no better year to invite PHers to vote on their all-time favorite M automobile before its centenary arrives against the gloomy backdrop of a fully electrified 2072. In the pantheon of European automakers, reaching 50 may not be very noteworthy, but for a performance division that began as a more small Motorsport division, it is a huge milestone.

The list of M-branded cars is lengthy but impressive, in part due to its history. Since this is PH, there were a lot of arguments on the format of the poll. Should we choose the front-runners in advance? Alternatively, why not just keep with the most well-known generations grouped together? or liquefy everything in a big pot? We decided to go with the free-for-all since we didn’t want to let anyone down, especially the three people who bravely voted for the G82 M4 Competition. And the outcome was as follows.
