The new 2 Series Gran Coupe will launch with a choice of three engines: one diesel (220d Gran Coupe) and two gasoline options (218i and M235i xDrive). The Leipzig facility also produces the 2 Series Coupe, the M2 Competition, and the front-driven BMW compact MPVs in addition to the new F40 1 Series and F44 2 Series Gran Coupe (2 Series Active Tourer, 2 Series Gran Tourer).
The factory will also increase output to keep up with demand for the all-electric i3 and the i8 plug-in hybrid sports cars in Coupe and Roadster forms.
“This great degree of flexibility and personnel competency are the hallmarks and, therefore, a key success factor of our Leipzig manufacturing system,” Kemser continued.
