The i4 would outperform my stick M3 in a straight line and compete favorably with an M3 Comp with xDrive.
While driving in Sport mode, BMW has added a cute tiny futuristic whir, it is impossible to mistake it for the regular small explosions that occur under the hood of a traditional automobile. We fanatics will have the toughest problem accepting this above all else. Drive a Corolla every day, and the quiet of an electric vehicle is appreciated. When driving a standard BMW M vehicle, an i4 will make you feel like only one pair of headphones is correctly plugged in.
The sensations are another thing. When I’m in neutral in the G80, my shifter still rattles, and rowing through the gears gives me a sense of fulfillment that the i4 cannot match. Turning the wheel and stomping on the gas are both a little muffled in the i4. The future is going to be quite silent.
