Facelifted BMW 3 Series: Exclusive images and videos

By all accounts, the BMW 3 Series Facelift is a little design improvement. However, the aesthetic changes are really powerful. We spent a few hours in Munich with the G20 3 Series Sedan earlier this week and were able to photograph some of the modifications to the look. You may view a photo gallery and watch a video walk-around of a facelifted 330i model below.

New lower front fascia, all-new headlights, and a brand-new grille are included in the G20 BMW 3 Series Facelift. However, the majority of you will notice the headlamp change first. With tiny notches on the undersides of its headlights, the pre-LCI 3 Series stood out from the rest of the BMW lineup.

Improvements to the exterior for 2023

The 2023 BMW 3 Series has several small tweaks, just as any facelift model. The new headlights, which are a little bit thinner than the model before the facelift and no longer have the kink at the bottom portion, are the most obvious difference in the front. The recognizable kidney grille has also had a facelift and now includes double sloths and a little more angular appearance (luckily not enormous, here).

The shark nose is another subdued design element that is making a reappearance, albeit it isn’t as prominent as it was on BMW vehicles from the 1970s and 1980s. The test prototype 2024 BMW 5 Series is where we first observed the reappearance of this design element. Additionally, the 2023 BMW 3 Series has larger air intakes for a more aggressive appearance.

On the side of the 2023 BMW 3 Series, not much has changed. For the US market, the basic wheel is still 18 inches, but it now has a new “796” wheel design rather than the “780” wheel type of the outgoing model. The M Shadow line is now included as standard when choosing the M-package, while you are free to choose another finish.

The new, more aggressive rear diffuser, which is larger than the previous model and features updated marker lights, is the only difference at the back. They are now vertically orientated rather than horizontally.

For the 2016 model year, the facelifted (“Life Cycle Impulse”) variants were released in 2015. Changes include:

  • Except for the American market, the 330i model (using the B48 engine) replaces the 328i model (using the N20 engine).
  • With the exception of the US market, the 320i engine switches to the B48 from the N20.
  • The 316i and 320i ED are replaced by the 318i model, which has a 3-cylinder B38 engine. As a result, for the first time in its 40-year history, the 318i model isn’t propelled by a 4-cylinder engine.

Do you know where a BMW 3 Series Sedan is constructed? That would be at the Mexico-based BMW San Luis Potosi Plant, which only manufactures the 3 Series.

Which BMW 3 Series engine is the best?

It’s difficult to criticize any of the engines that are offered in the 3 Series because they all strike an outstanding balance between performance and fuel efficiency. But the M340i xDrive’s 374hp 3.0 liter six-cylinder petrol engine is unquestionably the show-stopper.

It provides plenty of power from low engine speeds and is refined, versatile, and easygoing in everyday driving. It is even capable of 40 mpg or more on a highway cruise. However, if you want to indulge in its performance potential, it can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 4.4 seconds, thanks in part to the traction of the four-wheel drive. While you’re performing it, it sounds fantastic as well.

A similarly swift M340d xDrive diesel version is also available. It has a 3.0 liter, six-cylinder engine with 340 horsepower, but should be more efficient, especially on long highway drives.

A sports car, is the BMW 3 Series?

Do BMW 3 Series vehicles come from Germany?

Currently, BMW is starting to produce its brand-new G20 generation 3 Series. There will be multiple factories producing the most recent model of the standard sport sedan because demand is anticipated to be high not just in the US and Europe but in other areas as well. Along with the San Luis Potosi plant in Mexico and another one in Shenyang, China, there is a production facility in Germany. Does it really matter where your new 3-Series was made?

Bimmerpost claims that it might. According to reports, the Luxury Package, the M Sport Package, the Power Tailgate, and the Rear Seat Heating will not be available on the first G20 3 Series made in San Luis Potosi. Additionally, the exterior paint shades Mediterranean Blue Metallic, Mineral White Metallic, and Glacier Silver Metallic will no longer be available.

Bimmerpost received the information from a dealership newsletter. I wouldn’t say this is very exceptional, but depending on the options and packages that 3 Series consumers choose the most, it might present some issues for BMW in the future. However, according to BMW Blog, customers who order a 3 Series with any of the aforementioned accessories and trim packages will simply have their order sent to the German manufacturing facility. To put it another way, it probably won’t matter where you reside since BMW will make sure that your 3 Series is constructed at the location that is most appropriate for doing so. However, we don’t believe the new Mexican facility will fall too far behind its German counterpart.

BMW spent $1 billion building this facility, which was finished earlier this year. It will be able to produce up to 150,000 automobiles annually, and its location makes it ideal for orders from North America. The Alpine White 3 Series with the Sport Line option was the San Luis Potosi plant’s first ever finished BMW, and it was unveiled last October.

When were the 3 Series updates made?

According to a report by Auto Bild from October 2015, BMW management chose one of three final design concepts by Alexey Kezha for the F30 3 Series’ replacement at the end of November 2015. The new 3 Series, internally referred to as the G20, was announced on October 2 at the 2018 Paris Motor Show and went on sale in March 2019.

The Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform serves as the foundation for the G20 3 Series, which makes greater use of high-strength steel and aluminum. The G20 has a hydraulic dampening system to better absorb hits, along with a MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension.

Due to the G20’s flat and covered underbody, the 320d’s drag coefficient decreased from 0.26 Cd to 0.23 Cd. The G20 is 85 mm (3.3 in) longer, 16 mm (0.6 in) broader, and 55 kg (121 lb) lighter than its predecessor. The car’s body stiffness has increased by 50% while maintaining a 50:50 weight distribution. 480 liters is the same as the F30’s boot capacity (17 cu ft).

The A-pillars feature more insulation, and the windshield is made of double-glazed acoustic glass. The handbrake is now automatically activated rather than manually handled by a lever. Engine coasting is now also possible in the Eco Pro and Comfort modes, and engine particulate filters are also standard on both gasoline and diesel vehicles.

Both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive (xDrive) models of the 320d, 320i, 330d, 330i, and M340i are offered.

The 325Li grade, which has the same 2.0 liter turbocharged engine delivering 184 horsepower and 300 Nm (221 lbft) of torque as the global 320i, was released as the only available drivetrain for the long-wheelbase model (G28) in China in April 2019. Later, a less priced model known as the 320Li was released. This model has the same 154 horsepower and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) torque-producing engine as the worldwide 318i, paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. A 110 mm increase was made to the wheelbase (4.3 in). The 3 GT will be replaced by the right-hand drive LWB 330Li in India by the end of 2021. A 2.0 liter turbocharged engine with 258 horsepower powers the 330Li. Following that, this model was made available in a few Southeast Asian countries, like Malaysia and Thailand, to supplement the standard-wheelbase models already on the market there.

By 2023, a Chinese electric version is expected to be available.
