The BMW M5 from the E60 generation has issues. What is it even doing here with a clunky SMG gearbox, odd appearance, a big thirsty powerplant, and a little fuel tank to feed it? The engine in question is a 5.0-liter V10 with 507PS (373kW) of power, and if you wanted, you could get an estate body for it. Don’t get us wrong, the E60 had that M dynamic charm despite its shortcomings, but the Touring’s uniqueness, of which there is one for every four saloons, is what earns it a spot on this list. We would even give up the saloon’s theoretical top speed of 200 mph in favor of the load-lugger.

After 50 years, we demanded a simple majority vote. Numerous people responded to the call.
There may be no better year to invite PHers to vote on their all-time favorite M automobile before its centenary arrives against the gloomy backdrop of a fully electrified 2072. In the pantheon of European automakers, reaching 50 may not be very noteworthy, but for a performance division that began as a more small Motorsport division, it is a huge milestone.
The list of M-branded cars is lengthy but impressive, in part due to its history. Since this is PH, there were a lot of arguments on the format of the poll. Should we choose the front-runners in advance? Alternatively, why not just keep with the most well-known generations grouped together? or liquefy everything in a big pot? We decided to go with the free-for-all since we didn’t want to let anyone down, especially the three people who bravely voted for the G82 M4 Competition. And the outcome was as follows.
Alternatively, these are the top ten. More over 3,000 of you graciously responded to the request, and votes were submitted for almost every vehicle M GmbH has ever produced. The frontrunners have just been distinguished for your consideration and watching enjoyment. And, of course, protest howls. However, the data is accurate. So let’s start pop picking in reverse order without further ado.

Decoding the lengthy nomenclature of the 2022 BMW M440i xDrive Gran Coupe is necessary. First off, the prefix “M440i” denotes a M Performance model, which is a tier below the full M4. Second, the all-wheel-drive system used by BMW is referred to as ‘xDrive’. Additionally, despite its name, a BMW Gran Coupe isn’t a coupe. It has a rakish, coupe-like roofline and is actually a four-door sedan. Ironically, the only 4 Series vehicle that isn’t a coupe is the M440i Gran Coupe.
The 2022 BMW M440i xDrive Gran Coupe may not be a coupe, but it has every component a reliable sports sedan needs. Since it is almost identical to the related M340i, it features more chassis bracing, larger brakes, a wider track, an active locking rear differential, and stiffer variations of the lift-related shocks. Variable-ratio steering is a standard feature, however M Sport adaptive dampers are still optional.

M5 or M3—which is superior?
Mat Watson of CarWow is switching from a BMW M3 Competition to a BMW M5 CS, which may be acceptable to some. However, his press-car switcheroo provides him a chance to respond to a query that might not have the most obvious solution. Is the BMW M5 CS truly double the car at almost twice the price of the M3 Competition?
Despite the fact that aesthetic preference is highly individualistic, Watson is one person who favors the M3’s grille to the M5’s. Watson believes the bucktoothed Bimmer is more aggressive and has grown to like its front appearance. From most other angles, however, the M5 triumphs, even though the CS also has some attractive Bronze highlights.
With all-wheel drive and more, the M5 CS handily defeats the rear-wheel-drive M3 in launch comparisons, clocking in at 2.88 seconds versus 4.96 seconds. But the CS’s victory is not only a straightforward one. The M3 stands out as a well-tuned and refined chassis when you take both vehicles around a set of winding backroads. However, the M5 CS has the advantage because it seems slightly more unique.
The M5 CS feels superior to its smaller sibling because to BMW’s modifications, many of which are modest. It defies tradition because it has long been accepted wisdom that the M3 is the more nimble and track-oriented of the two. The M5 CS’s engine isn’t particularly noteworthy, yet it nonetheless succeeds in engulfing the driver in its chassis.
Watson comes to the conclusion that even if the M3 is a fun and objectively excellent vehicle that is simple to drive on a daily basis, it won’t go down in the annals of the M division’s greatest achievements. However, the M5 CS will, making its triumph a heart-over-head decision.
The M4 or M3 is faster.
Considering that the current version of both vehicles uses the same engine and powertrain, depending on the transmission you select, the M4 would be the speedier vehicle because it is lighter than the M3.
Having said that, the weight disparity is negligible, and we would not use this as the deciding factor when purchasing either car.

The BMW M2 is a high-performance variant of the BMW 2 Series car created by BMW M GmbH, the company’s motorsport branch.
The first generation M2 was advertised as the entry-level M Car in the lineup as the 2 Series took the place of the 1 Series coupe and convertible variants. The successors, the M2 Competition and M2 CS, featured a high performance twin-turbocharged engine developed by BMW M GmbH (S55 engine), improved handling, suspension, and braking systems, aerodynamic body enhancements, interior/exterior accents with the tri-color “M” (Motorsport) badging, and increased wei. Are m3 quick?
According to BMW, the xDrive technology trims 0.4 seconds off the 0-62 mph time when it is installed for the first time ever on a 3 Series-shaped M vehicle. Even while the resulting 3.5 seconds is very quick, it’s a bit of a dry stat.
Fastest vehicle in its category, however there aren’t many contemporary competitors with comparable strength. Audi seems to have forgotten about the RS4 (it hasn’t received an update in years), so all we can do for now is guess that the next-generation C63 will be as powerful as we wish for, if not anticipate given that it will use a four-cylinder hybrid.
The normal M3 isn’t slow, though. The launch control on the last-generation F80 automobile was terrible; it essentially dialed in a lot of revs and let go of the clutch. Wheelspin ensues, but not much progress is made. You accomplished a lot if you were able to reach 60 mph in less than 4.5 seconds. The updated version is considerably superior. In our testing earlier this year, it reached 60 mph in 3.6 seconds (as opposed to the 0-62 time claim of 3.9 seconds) and 100 mph in 7.8 seconds. There is proof supporting what we have said previously regarding how nicely the rear differential operates.
The 4WD one saves around four tenths of a second while performing exactly as promised. 0-60mph? 3.18secs. in 7.39 seconds, 100 mph.
