The 2017MY M2 now has a new option called the M Driver’s Package. This option consists of two parts. A new one-day performance driving course that is specifically designed for BMW M and higher speed/performance driving makes up the first part of the package. A software upgrade that raises the highest speed limits from 155 mph to 168 mph is the second component.
The idea of a one-day school is sound (albeit WAY too short to make a difference for someone without experience). Increased speed limits are no great deal because there are so few tracks where you might see them anyhow, and nobody in North America would dare to exceed 155 mph on a public road. It’s not like a normal, sensible, and responsible person would try to exceed 155 mph on a public road, to put it another way.
I believe the $2,500 package is excessively expensive for what you get, especially given that a single day of M School costs $1,550.
It’s an even worse deal if you’re a member of the BMWCCA because you get an additional 15% off. I would be throwing fistfuls of cash at my dealer if it was the two-day course.
If you’re in the market for a tune anyway, you’ll probably be able to acquire it for free and not just the 168 upgrade since the old piggybacks may delete it entirely.

Since the ECU vMax limiter is programmed for a greater speed limit, I think it is factory. Higher top speeds and a single day of M Performance School are the two parts of the M Drivers Package.
You can OBDII tune the car if you want the M Drivers Package for the higher top speed, but doing so will void the drivetrain warranty because the most recent ECU software update, which was released in June 2020, now automatically detects tunes, as opposed to the past where the Center had to search for the tune.
Since my previous M4 vert had the Vmax removed via bench tune, I have actually reached 165 mph in both of my current Ms without the M Drivers Package, but I was never able to exceed 170 mph on the highway before I spun the crank hub and had to replace the ECU because it was bricked from the tune in Germany. Only if you’re driving in Germany on the Autobahn or on the back end of the Nurburgring Nordschleife from Tiegarten to Dottinger Hohe sections is the M Drivers Package worthwhile because even on the track you won’t have a long enough straightaway to hit 180+ mph.

BMW M3 F80 and F82 M4 – 280 kilometer per hour
The cost of the M Driver’s Package for the new F80 BMW M3 and F82 M4 Coupe has been announced by BMW. The new M3 and M4 drivers may now accelerate to a speed of 280 km/h for a cost of 2,450 Euro. We disclosed the details of the similar package for the M4 Convertible back in April.
The speed of an automobile only has a theoretical impact on 99 percent of drivers because they rarely get the opportunity to employ the full speed. Germany is an exception because of the Autobahn, which in some places allows for unrestricted speed.
The M Driver’s Package also includes a driver training session on the track where all models are educated to behave correctly when traveling at high speeds. The M Driver’s Package may also come with a rear spoiler lip depending on the model.
What is included in the BMW M package?
The BMW M Sport package, which is either a trim level or an option package depending on the vehicle, is intended to give the car a sportier look and feel. The top-of-the-line M model cars, like the M3, are not to be confused with vehicles having the M Sport package, but the packages do improve the performance of the vehicles compared to their non-M Sport siblings.
The package, which is available on many BMW models, typically includes elements like sport seats, an aerodynamic kit, a M steering wheel or M sport steering wheel with paddle shifters, wider wheels with performance tires, and distinctive exterior ornamentation. Others come with dynamic damper control or the Adaptive M Suspension, while certain vehicles also come with the sport package as part of the M sport package. The Sport Automatic transmission is also available for automatic vehicles.
What does BMW’s M mode do?
All of the available driver aid technologies, both standard and optional, are turned on in this configuration. The SPORT option, in which the active driver assistance systems only transmit alerts on speed limits and overtaking limitations, is activated by a simple press of the M Mode button. M View is advantageous to the driver in both the Head-Up Display and the instrument panel. Only pertinent information for sporty driving is provided here.
What does the M Sport package on my BMW look like?
The VIN number is arguably the simplest way to recognize a BMW M Series. Given that all you have to do is look at the first three letters, this method is the quickest and most effective. The WBS prefix is used in the VIN numbers of all BMW M vehicles. The VIN numbers of all other BMW automobiles start with WBA.
What vehicle was the original BMW M?
The cleverly called BMW M1 supercar was the first BMW road vehicle to be given the now-iconic BMW M emblem. The 1978 M1 is the only mid-engined M vehicle ever produced. It cost about PS2,000 more than a Ferrari BB12 from the same era and had supercar performance, appearance, and price. The 273bhp M1 had a top speed of 161 mph and could reach 62 mph in under 5.6 seconds.
While hardly supercar-quick now, the M1 had more than enough power to make some of the elite supercar drivers look bad in the late 1970s.
By the way, Lamborghini was supposed to produce the BMW M1, but they backed out of the deal due to other financial commitments. Consequently, BMW M created the M1, their first ever M vehicle. What follows is history.
What does M1 on a BMW stand for?
The mid-engined sports automobile known as the BMW M1 (model code E26) was made by the German automaker BMW from 1978 to 1981.
In the late 1970s, BMW and Italian automaker Lamborghini signed a contract for the creation of a racing car in enough quantity for homologation, but due to disagreements, BMW decided to develop the car on its own. From 1978 through 1981, the final vehicle was marketed to the general public under the name BMW M1.
It is the first mass-produced mid-engine BMW car; the i8 plug-in hybrid sports car is the second.
What does BMW’s A and M buttons do?
If a mode is lit up, it should automatically cut off any external air after detecting any contaminants. Until a sensor purportedly detects moisture that could create fogging and turn A mode back on, M mode, if illuminated, shuts off all outside air and is in full recirculation mode.
What distinguishes the BMW M Series?
M Sport is the bottom rung of the BMW M ladder. Instead than being a special vehicle variation like M Performance or M, “M Sport” is simply an accessory package that can be applied to practically any BMW. The M Sport package is available for even high-end vehicles like the 7-Series, 8-Series, and X7. Depending on the car, the M Sport package may have different items. But at the very least, it offers distinctive outward and interior details. Some minor M emblems, darker exterior and interior trim, bigger wheels, a sportier-looking body package, and a unique steering wheel are among these changes. However, certain BMWs get much more.
M Performance is a level up from M Sport. The insignia on the trunk makes it simple to identify between the two. For example, a 340i with the M Sport package will only say “340i,” whereas the BMW M340i with M Performance will actually say “M340i.” And whereas M Sport focuses primarily on appearance, M Performance adds real speed. Keeping with the 3-Series, the M340i receives a unique engine from the base model. A 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 255 horsepower is the standard powertrain for the 3-Series. The 3.0 litre twin-turbocharged six-cylinder in the M340i, however, produces 382 horsepower. The M Performance variant still has a manual transmission, but it also includes M Sport brakes, M Sport exhaust, sportier tires, bigger wheels, more selectable driving modes, and a standard electronically controlled locking rear differential.
The quickest and most potent trims are the M Performance cars, although due to the extensive performance upgrades, BMW officially views its M products as unique models. Because of this, official M vehicles lack trim names; for example, the M3 and X6 M are simply badged as “M3” and “X6 M.” And every BMW M SUV and automobile is built with track racing in mind, unlike M Performance cars, which are primarily meant for street driving. Every X5 M and X6 M purchaser has access to training at one of BMW’s M driving schools. Which, given the support the M models receive, is probably absolutely necessary. The most evident is increased strength. Similar to the M340i, the regular BMW M3 has a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine, however the M3’s engine produces 425 horsepower. This is increased to 444 horsepower by the M3 Competition. The forthcoming 2021 M3 might have up to 510 horsepower. The M-specific alterations, however, go beyond that.
What is included in the bundle for M Drivers?
The package includes a special 1-day high-performance driving course at a BMW Performance Center in addition to increasing the top speed of your BMW M car.
