BMW Short ISN is a 4-byte (8-digit) ISN, and the last four of those digits stand in for the DME ISN. DMEs with only a 4-digit ISN, such as the MSV70, ME9.2, EDC16XX, and others, are regarded as having an old 4-digit ECU ISN.
While the 8 digits total on the CAS stand for the fusion of the 6HP EGS ISN and DME/DDE. Only vehicles with a 6HP EGS (E70/71) and a short ISN on the ECU will have an 8-digit ISN on the CAS; otherwise, only the 4 digits required to match the ECU ISN will be present.
mostly on unencrypted CASs from CAS1 to CAS3. For short ISN cars, you must also perform SYNC ECU-CAS from service functions in addition to matching the ISN between the ECU and CAS while replacing any one of them if you want the vehicle to start.

Description
When working with older EWS and CAS version cars, the BMW ISN tool is an excellent resource. You can use OBD to write to the CAS and read ISN from the DME. enables rapid module switching.
Additionally, it contains a dump tool that enables you to load files from the EWS or CAS and match the VIN and other information to each module. makes it possible for a smoother transition into the car.
Be aware that you must have the bare minimum of BMW Explorer hardware in order to utilize this software module (interface).
What is DME DDE EWS CAS and BMW ESYS?
ESYS is the software used by BMW to code and flash BMWs with F-Chassis (and higher) models. Thus, it primarily dates from 2009 and beyond (depending on model). Consider it to be WinKFP and NCS Expert for brand-new automobiles. It has nothing to do with ISTA. While ESYS and other BMW Standard tools applications are BMW engineering programs, ISTA is the dealer service software.
If you don’t have the right interfaces and know what to do in case something goes wrong, I advise you not to experiment with these too much.
ISN is the immobilizer key code that the EWS or CAS module uses, not a piece of software (the immobilizer security module). With each successful engine start, the ISNs of more recent automobiles employ a starting code that is recorded in the DME (or DDE if a diesel car) and then modify the code (rolling code). The ISN saved in the EWS/CAS and DME/DDE must match for the car to start. Apart from the initial DME to EWS/CAS pairing, there is no BMW software that interacts with the ISN (on virgin DME or virgin EWS)
After accessing a module’s EEPROM or flash memory, aftermarket (non-BMW) software can assist with ISN identification and perhaps even customization. This calls for some pricey interfaces and in-depth understanding of electronics.
Some ECUs (like the MSD80 DME of the 335i) store the ISN in the memory’s OTP region (one-time programming), rendering those ECUs effectively married for life and preventing you from making any changes to that ISN. Although this is unrelated, there are incredibly expensive interfaces that can modify the EWS or CAS to match the DME being utilized.
In addition, there is a little piece of software called “BMW ISN” that can alter the ISN in the EWS or CAS. This aftermarket program pairs with the pricey BMW Explorer interface. Without adequate interfaces and tools, most of them are useless.
CAS, DME, and DDE Reading BMW ISN
The user-friendly software and coverage of DMEs and DDEs in BMW, Mini, and Rolls-Royce vehicles from 2003 up to the present make Autohex II BMW Software one of the top BMW ISN Editors tools.
BSI BMW The Autohex II software supports reading and writing: Manager of CAS DME ISN, This sophisticated feature can perform the following:
- ISN for CAS1, CAS2, CAS3, and CAS3+: Read and Write (2 bytes ISN, 4 digits).
- Read and Write SK for CAS1, CAS2, CAS3, and CAS3+ (ISN 128 bits, 32 digits).
- View the entire DME ISN for E series (2 bytes ISN, 4 digits).
- It allows SK writing to the majority of these DMEs and can read all DME SK (ISN 128 bits, 32 digits) except MSS65 in the E series.
- Most DDE ISNs (2 bytes, 4 digits) in the E series should be read (2003-2006).
- Read and Write for Every DDE SK in the E Series (ISN 128 bits, 32 digits) (2006 and up).
- Read the ISN for the EGS 6HP in the E Series, and CAS will be matched automatically.
- For the majority of BOSCH DMEs in the F series, read and write BMW ISN.
