The 3 Series coupe has greater external stylistic differences than the saloon variants when compared to prior generations. These include the narrower side windows, more slanted headlamps, and L-shaped taillights on the coupe. Similar to its E46 predecessor, the front seatbelts are on motorized arms that extend from the B-pillar to hand the seatbelts to the driver and/or passenger. The back seat holds two passengers (as opposed to a three-person bench for the saloon) and has a rear center console tray.
The coupe (and convertible) body types were part of the 3 Series lineup until the E92 model. These body types are marketed as the 4 Series for later generations. The F30/F31 gradually replaced the E90/E91 after the 2011 model year, however the E92/E93 remained in production until the 2013 model year. E90 vs E92
Later in this article, we’ll return to this subject. Prior to getting into the details of the 2007–2013 328i’s specifications, it’s critical to establish some fundamentals. The E90 and E92 belong to the same 3-series generation. E90 stands for the sedan, and E92 for the coupe. Since they both have the same BMW N52 engine, the engine specifications will not change.
The E90 and E92 designations, however, indicate that the cars actually rest on separate chassis. Specifications like the 328i’s weight, length, ground clearance, etc. differ between the coupe and sedan versions. As a result, we’ll try our best to detail the precise specifications for the E90 and E92 328i. Despite having various chassis, they are really rather similar.

The sedan and estate body types were used to debut the range in 2004. The coupe and cabriolet were first offered in 2006 and 2007, respectively. The F30/F31 models were introduced in 2012 to replace the E90/E91 sedans and wagons. However, the E92/E93 coupes and cabriolets continued to be manufactured until 2013, when the F32/F33 models took their place.
The 335i was the first 3 Series model to be offered with a turbocharged gasoline engine in 2007. Run-flat tires for the 3 Series were also added with the E9X series. Therefore, run-flat vehicles do not come with a spare tire.
The only M3 with a V8 engine is the E90/E92/E93 model. It was introduced in 2007 and came in sedan, coupe, and cabriolet body types. It was powered by a BMW S65B40 engine.
How old is the BMW E92?
The fourth generation BMW M3 E92 sports coupe was introduced by BMW M in the fall of 2007. The high-performance car was introduced twice again in 2008 and offered in three body types: the E92 Coupe, the E93 Convertible, and, for the first time since the E36, the E90 Sedan. The vehicles, like their forerunners, broke ground in terms of technology and driving dynamics. But one novel element in particular grabbed attention: the BMW M3’s eight-cylinder engine, a first for the model.
A BMW E92 is it an M3?
As desirable as “regular” automobiles come, the BMW M3 is. Almost everyone who is passionate about all things automotive has at some point desired one, or at the at least, shown the BMW sports vehicle the respect it merits. The E92 M3 is currently still affordable and the only V8 M3 ever produced. And if you’re interested, here’s all the information you require for the final naturally aspirated M3.
What kind of engine is in the BMW E92?
The 328i, 335i, and 335is were available in the US. All of these vehicles used inline-6 cylinder engines with either an automatic or 6-Speed transmission. The 3.0 liter inline-six (N52) in the 328i produced 231 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque. It’s a fantastic machine, and this was the final naturally aspirated inline-six produced by BMW. Due to the absence of turbochargers, it has less power than the 335i but is far more dependable. Additionally, it has a terrific sound and the smoothness that is typical of inline-6 engines. The less expensive E92 is also the 328i.
The 3.0 inline-six (N54) twin turbo engine, famous for its 302 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, debuted in the 335i. Due to its adaptability, this engine is adored by the hobbyist community. At the drag strip, tuned N54 335i versions frequently outperform E92 M3s.
But there were some downsides to this. The high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) failing was the primary issue with the N54’s reliability. The N54 engine was replaced with the N55 during the 2011 facelift. The horsepower and torque were maintained, but they switched from dual to a single turbo with two scrolls. There wasn’t much of a change in terms of driving. However, the N55 addressed a few of the N54’s reliability problems. This has the disadvantage of having a less tunable engine.
Production of the 335is began in 2011 and continued until 2013. The “s” in 335is stood for sport, and it was essentially a more advanced 335i. It has a 22 horsepower and 75 lb-ft improvement over the normal model and kept the N54 engine until 2011 unlike the non-s variants.
It comes with a 6-speed manual, just like the other variants. But a 7-speed dual clutch is an alternative to a torque converter automatic. Other improvements included new wheels, front and back aesthetic revisions, and 335is badging on the dash and in the instrument panel.
BMW E90: What Does It Mean?
We’ll give you a quick crash course in the E90-gen 3er before we get into the intricacies so you can catch up before you invest any money. Beginning in 2006 and lasting until 2012, the E90-generation BMW 3 Series received a mid-cycle refresh (LCI) in 2009.
Although it is referred to as the E90-generation, that chassis code actually has a few different iterations. Standard designations for vehicles include “E90” for sedans, “E91” for five-door wagons, “E92” for two-door coupes, and “E93” for two-door convertibles. The same is true for M3 cars, as this generation of BMW has no M-specific chassis codes.

Beyond its suicidal tendencies, the E92 BMW M3 has flaws including a lack of low-down power, hefty curb weight, and a love-it-or-hate-it DCT transmission. The E92 M3 is more than the combination of its elements, though. Its incredible engine, superbly balanced chassis, and beautiful excellent aesthetics make it a joy to drive swiftly.

As time passes and the cost of these vehicles decreases, more and more E92 M3s are being purchased and customized. Therefore, the value of pristine, stock examples will soar, rendering them useless. So, if you want one, go buy it right away. Immediately after doing so, pay the money—which is undoubtedly a lot—to have the rod bearings replaced. If you take care of your rod-bearings, they will last the entire time you own the car and you may drive with confidence knowing that they are in good condition.
