The instrument cluster is actually alerting you that it cannot connect to the check control module. Either the CCM, KOM, or the physical wiring connecting the two are broken. What might this imply if the check control light is on?

The “check control” panel, often known as the “On Board Computer” (OBC), is found under the heating and air conditioning panel on your BMW.
