With two new models—the BMW i4 and iX—showcasing its innovative approach to electric vehicles, BMW is currently undergoing its most recent electric revolution. Contrary to BMW’s initial entry into the space in 2014, which featured the eccentric i3 urban runabout and the esoteric i8, these new vehicles appear like conventional BMWs but have electric propulsion. But the M50 offers a 316-mile range if you want that punch of electric performance. Therefore, the increased performance and weight of a second motor do make a difference.
You’ll be glad to know that there are several flexible charging choices for the i4. A 11kW wallbox can be used to charge up at home, although charging takes 8.5 hours, so maybe something for the night.
However, if you’re on a long trip and need more power, you can recharge at DC points. With a 200kW charger, you can give the eDrive40 and M50 an additional 102 and 87 miles of range, respectively, in just 10 minutes. The battery has a 210kW maximum charging capacity, so if you can find a charger with that level of output, it will charge even more quickly.
