I think the X5 is only suitable for light off-road use. It lacks skid plates, extensive suspension travel, and low range gearing, all of which are necessary for what I would consider true off-road driving. With its all-wheel drive traction and high ground clearance, the X5 is capable of light off-roading with ease.
