A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 248 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque powers the standard BMW X4 xDrive30i. This model reached 60 mph on the track in a respectable 6.2 seconds. The X4 M40i is the best option if you’re looking for something more frantic. This vehicle has a powerful 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbocharged engine that makes 382 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque. According to our track tests, the BMW X4 M40i sprints to 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds, and its engine note is just as stunning as its pace. Launch management is typical. An eight-speed automatic transmission that drives all four wheels is standard on both grades. No matter which X4 you select, you’ll be given an SUV that combines excellent handling with a comfortable ride.

Efficiency and Performance
There are four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines available for the BMW X4. The all-wheel-drive system on the X4 sends power to the rear wheels under hard acceleration or when slip is detected to conserve gasoline while driving. Additionally, it comes with an excellent eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard, therefore a manual gearbox is not an option.
BMW’s four-cylinder, 2.0-litre xDrive20d diesel, which has 190hp and can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 8.0 seconds, is the best of the lot. However, it will also return up to 52 mpg on paper, so getting an actual mpg in the low 40s is quite possible. It has good road feel, doesn’t get noisy under heavy acceleration, and maintains a respectable level of smoothness all the way to its rpm limiter.
BMW’s 265 horsepower, six-cylinder, 3.0-liter diesel engine is even smoother; it accelerates from zero to sixty miles per hour in just 5.8 seconds and will give the X4 a more opulent feel. The M40d, the top-of-the-line diesel, is marketed as a performance diesel, and who are we to disagree given that it accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.9 seconds.
There is only one gasoline-powered BMW X4—the M40i—and like the M40d, it is a performance SUV. It will also reach 0-62 mph in 4.9 seconds, but with a much more seductive exhaust note. Nevertheless, it will also burn through more fuel than the M40d does.
BMW X4
The BMW X4 is a small luxury crossover SUV that BMW has been producing since 2014. It is marketed as a sporting activity coupe (SAC), the second BMW car to do so after the X6, and has stylistic cues and a two-door coupe’s typical roofline. The X4 is frequently referred to as a “coupe” variant of the X3, giving up some of its utility for a rear roof that slopes downward for sportier looks.
Which warrior are you? Track-ready or trek-ready?
Despite its height and weight, it is spirited and has good handling. We award it a 7, with bonus points for the handling and drivetrain.
The starter-pack 2.0-liter turbo-4’s 248 horsepower is rated by BMW at a 0-60 mph time of 6.0 seconds. It is an SUV more in name than in actual purpose, but it does have a well-organized 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system that can transfer power to the front wheels when the rear ones become uncontrollable. Although it has run-flat all-season tires wrapped around its 19-inch wheels, it cannot travel off-road. It is preferable to consider the X4 as all-year-round evening attire.
BMW offers improvements in bulk, much way gas stations provide pork rinds. The X3 M40i’s engine room features a hot-swappable turbo-6 with 382 horsepower and a 0-60 mph time of 4.4 seconds. Even if you don’t like the way the X4 looks, you’ll find it difficult to dislike the catapult-like acceleration provided by this delectable powerplant. It’s a strong contender for BMW’s best all-arounder list, just like the X3 with the same powertrain. Only the 503 hp of the X4 M’s Competition version, which pulls acceleration times down to 3.9 seconds and turns up a bawdy exhaust symphony, can match its easy power.
All X4s have excellent driving habits. Base models come with 19-inch wheels that produce fluid, engaging handling from the hefty electronic power steering inputs, double-joint front struts, and multi-link rear suspension. Even with available adaptive dampers, the M variants gradually reduce ride movements and increase steering heaviness to the point where they feel brittle on public roads. The X4 M Competition’s characteristics are more akin to those of a sports vehicle than some true sports cars we can think of thanks to stop-now M Sport brakes and a M Sport rear differential.
Due to its enormous hauling capacity, excellent pickup and handling, 33 MPG, nearly silent inside, and top-end
Is the X4 a 4WD?
A 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine powers it, and a typical eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission transfers power to an all-wheel-drive system.
BMW X4: Is it a diesel?
Currently in its second generation, the BMW X4 continues down the road set out by its forerunner. The X4 uses the same running gear as the X3, but it has a more recognizable coupe-style roof, and the model range is more focused on performance and driving enjoyment.
The X4 is referred to by BMW as a “sport activity vehicle,” which emphasizes that it is intended to be more enjoyable to drive than a typical SUV and less about practical issues, much like the larger X6. There aren’t many direct competitors as a result, with the exception of the Mercedes GLC Coupe, which follows the similar strategy by separating a more design-focused vehicle from a traditional SUV. However, if you’re considering an X4, the Porsche Macan, Audi Q5, and Jaguar F-Pace are additional high-end SUVs to take into account.
In 2021, BMW gave the X4 a facelift, including changes to the front and back bodywork as well as the light clusters. The Sport and M Sport X trims are no longer offered, leaving the M Sport as the only specification available.
There are now three diesel and one petrol engine options for the X4. The entry-level diesel model, the xDrive20d, has a 2.0-liter engine with 187 horsepower, which enables it to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 7.9 seconds. The 3.0-liter xDrive30d variant has six cylinders for increased smoothness and produces 282 horsepower with a 0-62 mph time of 5.7 seconds. The M40d is the most potent diesel option; its 3.0-liter diesel engine generates 335 horsepower for a quick acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds.
The M40i variant uses a six-cylinder, twin-turbocharged engine that produces 355 horsepower and has a 0-62 mph acceleration time of 4.8 seconds. The xDrive20d has an eight-speed automatic transmission, and all vehicles have four wheels.
The X4 M Competition, a high-performance model with a twin-turbocharged straight-six petrol engine producing 503bhp and 600Nm of torque, is located at the top of the lineup. Though the closely comparable X3 M Competition is more useful and probably will receive more orders given the high caliber of its sporty SUV competitors, BMW doesn’t anticipate selling many of them.
Prices range from about PS50,000 to PS62,000 for M variants and PS88,00 for the X4 M Competition. This is more expensive than the comparable X3 model, which has identical performance and equipment.

It’s difficult for automakers to design a vehicle that handles well and is enjoyable, but it’s considerably harder when they start with a tall, rather hefty SUV. Surprisingly, the X4 is a stable SUV that makes it simple to forget its size and shape when driving.
Although it is based on the X3, it has a slightly sportier feel. In addition to the X4’s firmer suspension and wider rear track, the perspective from the driver’s seat contributes to this in part. As a result, the X4 drives with amazing poise and rarely gives the impression that it is a tall car as it navigates curves.
The X4 is a comfortable car to ride in despite its fast handling. Even in M Sport mode, the ride is controlled and doesn’t feel overly firm. The only time there is any discomfort in the cabin is when there is a major bump, but the optional adaptive dampers provide even more comfort when they are set to the softest level, making them a desirable purchase. This enables the X4 to handle damaged urban roads, busy highways, and difficult B-roads with equal ease. Additionally, the X4 maintains outstanding off-road capability despite being built to offer a sporty driving experience.
The X4’s eight-speed automatic transmission performs admirably. The separate driving modes allow the gearbox to vary its shift points based on the setting for improved performance or economy. It shifts smoothly and rapidly. Additionally, manual shifting is possible, either by using the gearlever for total control or the paddles on the back of the steering wheel.
Is the BMW X4 pricey?
The cost of the passenger SUV BMW X4 ranges from Rs. 71.90 to 73.90 lakhs*. It comes in two variations, and its other notable features include a kerb weight of and a boot capacity of Liters.
An X4 is what kind of a vehicle?
For someone who wishes to drive a sporty vehicle with space for both passengers and freight, there is the BMW X4. Due to its sloping roofline, the X4 has less cargo space than the X3 it is based on but more than a sedan. The X4 handles well, unlike many SUVs, though not as well as a sport sedan.
