The i4 will begin to be delivered in March 2022. Depending on when your pre-order was placed and when your car was configured at your preferred BMW Center in the fall of 2021, delivery timelines may vary. Your vehicle’s configuration, trim, and option choices will affect how quickly it is delivered, and your local BMW Center will keep you informed about delivery and schedule updates along the way.
Your car will be delivered on June 30, 2022, if you place your order early and receive the i4 early. Unless you opt to cancel the pre-order, which you may do at any time for a full refund of the down payment, your BMW Center will get in touch with you to complete delivery as soon as possible in the event of a delay.

(January-March 2023). The eDrive40 and M50 models will presumably be on sale a little early, most likely in the fall of 2022.
The 2023 i4 eDrive40 has a base price of USD 55,900, which is USD 500 more than that of the 2022 i4 eDrive40 (excl. USD 995 destination and handling fee). Starting at USD 67,300, the 2023 i4 M50 is USD 1,400 more expensive than the 2022 i4 M50 model (excl. USD 995 destination and handling fee). Because of rising raw material costs and the influence of geopolitical events, as well as negative global economic indications, automakers have had to raise prices.
Overview
The BMW i4 sedan is an essential component of the company’s growing EV lineup. With a battery powertrain and extremely refined driving characteristics, it delivers the styling of the 4-series Grand Coupe. Three different i4 variants are available: The eDrive35 has 281 horsepower and 260 miles of EPA range, while the eDrive40 delivers 335 horsepower with an estimated 300 miles of driving. The first two models are single motor rear-drive. In the fiery, all-wheel-drive, 536-hp i4 M50, the distance shrinks to 245 miles. It is a huge praise that the latter drives like an M3 with greater handling. Compared to an M3 Competition, the M50 accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in only 3.3 seconds and from 50 to 70 mph in just 2.0 seconds, which is 0.7 seconds faster than the BMW. The i4 is a superb daily driver when not engaged in ab-toning acceleration runs. It’s a thrilling and elegant sedan with a supple ride and highly rewarding sports-sedan handling, while lacking the steering feel we prefer in other M cars.
BMW i4 eDrive35 with a 260-mile range will launch in Q1 2023.
In a press statement today, BMW unveiled the newest and least expensive i4 model, outlining some of its features and the expected price for US consumers.
The carmaker claims that the most recent EV model includes the same Gen5 eDrive powertrain technology featured in both the iX and its i4 siblings. The battery pack for the BMW i4 eDrive35 is smaller (70.2 kWh), providing 66 kWh of net energy.
Lower predicted range is the result, particularly when compared to the eDrive40 with its 81 kWh pack. Additionally, the eDrive35 will produce much less horsepower and torque than any of the other variants and slightly less acceleration than the eDrive40’s single-motor version.
The three i4 choices are contrasted side by side as follows:
The initial MSRP is the final distinction you’ll see. BMW’s cheapest EV model in the US will be the i4 eDrive35, but even after delivery and handling, it only costs $4,500 less than the eDrive40.
BMW estimates that the i4 eDrive35 will start being produced in Munich in Q4 of this year, with sales to the US following in Q1 of 2023.
eDrive40 vs. the BMW i4 M50
Next year, two different BMW i4 variants will be available for purchase. the i4 M50 and the entry-level i4 eDrive40. The M50 is produced by BMW’s M Division, which was established to provide improved vehicles to complement the company’s line of road vehicles.
The M50 is the “first entirely electric performance automobile from BMW M,” according to BMW. Naturally, such performance has a cost, and the M50 will set you back almost $10,000 more than the $55,400 you would spend for an eDrive 40 model.
However, you’ll have more power beneath the hood to move forward quickly. The M50 accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds as opposed to the eDrive40’s 5.7 seconds, using a “Sport Boost” button to unleash all of its 537 horsepower and 586 lb-ft of torque.
The eDrive 40, in contrast, only has a single motor controlling the rear wheels. The power is provided by two electric motors that provide all-wheel drive.
The M50 model’s drawback is that it is less effective than the eDrive 40 variant and suffers from sharing the same battery. Therefore, the stated range is just 270 miles, which is 31 miles fewer than the eDrive 40.
That is really all that separates the two automobiles in terms of design. Both devices share the same functional appearance, and their 83.9kWh batteries can withstand charging rates of up to 200kW.

Ordering is currently open for the 2022 BMW i4 40 and i4 M50 in the US market. Both variants are now available for purchase in Europe, though I’m not sure which ones are or aren’t in all areas. Deliveries of the BMW i4 will start in the US in March 2022.
What year did the BMW i4 debut?
Since 2021, BMW has been manufacturing the battery-electric compact executive automobile known as the BMW i4 (model number G26). It is marketed as a four-door coupe but actually has a five-door liftback body type. At the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, the first concept car, known as the BMW I Vision Dynamics, made its debut. It is the fifth vehicle under the BMW I sub-brand and comes in a variety of performance-level variations, including the first battery-electric model offered by BMW’s motorsport division. The final product was unveiled in March 2021 and released for purchase in November 2021.
Where will the BMW i4 be produced?
Germany’s Munich, the home of BMW, is where the brand-new BMW i4 is produced. In the fall of 2021, the first all-electric i4 was constructed, kicking off the brand’s plans to electrify half of the vehicles made in Munich.
The Munich factory, which is the brand’s oldest, had to undergo a number of upgrades in order to produce electric vehicles in addition to internal combustion engines. The BMW 3 Series, 4 Series Gran Coupe, and BMW M3 are currently all made at this BMW plant.
The BMW i4 has propelled the BMW brand and the Munich manufacturing into the future, thanks to technology. You may get Jerry from the App Store if you’re looking for a cutting-edge solution to lower the cost of your BMW i4 car insurance.

How long does it take to get a BMW i4?
- Since BMW’s combustion engine vehicles continue to have extremely slow delivery schedules, many of these models won’t be available until the beginning of 2023. Although we are already seeing significant improvements in the delivery times for the 1 and 2 Series, many of our customers have been waiting for these vehicles for 10 months longer than anticipated.
- Delivery timelines are currently estimated at 9 months for the 1 series–8 series, although this can change as customers are frequently pulled ahead due to cancellations.
- Stock of the BMW iX3 M Sport pro and iX40 M Sport is currently available.
- We do notice some cancellations because the iX50 M Sport has been quite popular because to the extended range, but a factory order is anticipated to take 9 to 12 months to arrive.
- Currently, the delivery period for the BMW i4 is one year.
How many pre-orders for BMW i4 have there been?
Like many automakers transitioning to EVs, BMW has announced that it sold out of every 2021 model of its new i4 electric vehicle. With its all-electric iX Sports Activity Vehicle, the company followed suit.
In Munich, BMW recently began i4 series production. The company reportedly made the EV available for preorder earlier this month, and it swiftly sold out, according to a report by CarsDirect. According to the article, delivery of the i4 eDrive40 and M50 trims have both sold out.
Directly from the official BMW website, according to CarsDirect. The first deliveries for both trims are sold out, according to the i4 preorder page. BMW anticipates starting delivery in June 2022.
To pre-order the i4, customers have to put down a $1,500 refundable deposit. They’d probably have to wait until next summer for a second wave of delivery if they hadn’t already done so. Fortunately, next summer starts in June 2022, so maybe folks won’t have to wait too long.
The starting MSRP for the i4 eDrive40 is $56,395 and includes destination. Rear-wheel drive, a single electric motor, 335 horsepower, and a 5.5-second zero-to-60-mph pace are all hallmarks of this model. According to BMW, it can go about 300 kilometers on a single charge.
The performance-focused M50 will set you back at least $66,895. It has 536 horsepower and is an all-wheel drive version with dual motors. The M50 has a 3.7 second 0-60 time and a range of about 245 miles.
The subject of “how many were allocated” frequently arises as we continue to receive numerous accounts of EVs “selling out.” Although it’s not usually the case, automakers occasionally disclose that figure. According to what we gather, BMW has not publicly said how many i4 or iX vehicles will be produced for the first delivery wave. BMW obtained 2,095 pre-orders for the i4 and 952 for the iX in the US, according to a story we published in July 2021.
Tom Moloughney, one of our own, recently got the opportunity to test drive the 2022 BMW i4 M50, and he was impressed. View the video below, and more importantly, click here to read Tom’s article.
How long does a battery in a BMW i4 last?
Nothing compares to the snarl of a high-horsepower internal combustion engine (ICE) when it accelerates to top speed in a fast automobile. When testing BMW’s brand-new i4 electric vehicle (with prices starting at $55,400), that was pretty much the only feature we didn’t get to see. The EV version of BMW’s renowned 3-Series offers everything the company is known for, including a pleasant interior, on-rails handling, and bracing acceleration. Additionally, the i4 boasts a 300-mile range on a full battery, charges rapidly, and has tons of cutting-edge technology. The Tesla Model 3 is still our Editors’ Choice winner despite all of this. Although the Model 3 Long Range is significantly more expensive (beginning at $57,990), it has a longer driving range.
