Mechanics have always warned me not to use ARCO gas since it can damage engines. I’m from California; is there really a problem with ARCO gas, as they claim, or was that just an old problem? Thanx!
YES!! DO NOT USE ARCO AT ANY COST! I’ve experienced a few instances of engine hesitancy when I’ve put arco gas in my BMW 428i. I vowed never to use their gas once more! When my father once filled up his automobile with arco gas, the gas gauge was damaged for a few days. When he used up all that awful gas, it soon became fixed, literally pointing upside down. That has been my encounter with Arco.
Hello, I don’t think it’s ARCO because all gas comes from the same refinery, but rather what they do with it after it leaves there. If you buy gas from an older station, it might contain dirt or water from the old tank underground, and that can happen with any gas. I had it happen with Chevron when I stopped at an older station; try getting your gas at a newer station.

Is ARCO fuel harmful to an engine?
Is ARCO Gas Unsafe? Arco gas is not harmful, no. Arco gas is identical to any other Top Tier gas, so it cannot harm your vehicle.
What happens if I fuel a BMW with normal fuel?
BMW, for instance, advises using premium fuel in all of the vehicles it sells in the United States, though they can also run on ordinary. According to Thomas Plucinsky, a BMW representative, using lower-octane fuel normally doesn’t hurt the engine.
How pure is ARCO gas?
Top TierTM gas from ARCO keeps engines clean1. It contains premium additives that help keep your engine clean and running the way you like it to3.
enhances the performance of your engine by protecting it from the damaging effects of deposits brought on by low-detergent fuels. demands constant use. The vehicle you drive and the way you drive affect the outcome.
Does ARCO gas burn more quickly?
Over the past two months, I’ve experimented with the fuel economy of various gas types and discovered unexpected results. You get what you pay for when picking gas brands, and the brand of gas DOES effect your total fuel economy. Here is a summary of what I have learned.
The Greater Los Angeles County area in Southern California serves as the basis for the analysis. The location and traffic of the place have an impact on gas prices. Gas with the Arco brand is the lowest quality available. Even though it is significantly less expensive than competing brands (about $0.10 cents less per gallon), it also has the lowest fuel efficiency. A full tank only allowed for 270 miles of travel at best, as opposed to 380 miles when using a different brand. You are compensating for more frequent trips to the gas station with the money per gallon you thought you had saved. Along with that, there is also the $0.45 debit card surcharge. Not only does Arco gas burn off more quickly, but the quality piques desire. When accelerating, the RSX seems to bog down and lag, which is similar to how an automatic car would accelerate. The difference between using 87 and 91 octane in your RSX is like putting 87 octane in your car against 91 octane, except that Arco brand fuel feels the same at both octane levels!
We’ll use Arco as the base index against which all other competing brands are measured since it is the gas with the lowest quality in my comparison investigation.
Results from Exxon-Mobil were superior to Arco’s. I could travel between 340 and 360 miles on the highway with a full tank. Exxon-Mobil fuel is somewhat comparable in price to Arco, often $0.10 to $0.15 more expensive per gallon.
Chevron and Shell are at the top of the fuel efficiency hierarchy with the best MPG for the money. Typically, Chevron gas costs $0.15 to $0.25 more than Arco gas. On average, 360–370 miles may be traveled on a tank of Chevron fuel. The best fuel efficiency is provided by Shell, which despite appearing to be the most expensive, offers up to 370+ miles per full tank.
Based on what I discovered, I would choose one of the other aforementioned brands rather than Arco gas. In the long run, it is more economical.
Is Costco fuel suitable for BMW?
In all of our BMWs and other vehicles, we utilize Costco gas. Even my BMW m8 v8 with dual turbos uses it. It’s ideal and effective. Kirkland Signature gasoline satisfies all Top Tier standards for Regular, Premium, and Diesel.
Is ARCO gas truly premium?
ARCO value extends beyond gas station discounts. We take great pride in providing TOP TIERTM gas, which has been infused with premium additives to give a number of advantages. Customers of ARCO can therefore avoid having to choose between affordable prices and high-quality gas. 1
What kind of gas is used by ARCO?
Marathon Petroleum currently uses the name ARCO as a trademark for its brand of gas stations in Mexico and the United States. BP has an exclusive license to use the ARCO brand in Northern California, Oregon, and Washington for the selling of gasoline in those states.
Any independent station outside of the BP areas of the northwest may use the ARCO brand in any territory served by the Marathon Petroleum distribution network.
Has has more than 1,300 gas stations in the western United States, and it recently opened five gas stations in northwest Mexico (as of 2017[update]).
Which gas is superior, ARCO or Chevron?
After that, I conducted a statistical analysis (2-sample t-test) to compare the MPG figures for Arco and Chevron. There was no distinction. I then conducted an ANOVA analysis on four pairs: Arco transitioning into Arco, Arco to Chevron, Chevron to Chevron, and Arco to Arco. Once more, there was no distinction. There were no statistically significant changes in performance while switching between gasoline brands.
The performance of Arco’s and Chevron’s miles per gallon were identical.
Why is ARCO fuel so affordable?

Jonathan Hobson Today in Asian trading, oil prices are back up, hovering around $99 per barrel. Because of worries about the situation in Japan, they had been declining. But despite the decline in oil prices, gas prices appeared to remain unchanged. Although there may seem to be certain stations with gas that is strangely inexpensive, they are generally $4 per gallon here in Los Angeles.
David Lazarus, a consumer columnist for the LA Times, is here to provide us with information. Happy morning.
Hobson: So why is the gas marginally less expensive than at the other stations?
Lazarus: This phenomenon, known as “pricing to market,” occurs frequently when petrol costs a little bit more when you travel about town, particularly if you’re closer to a motorway or a commercial area. But how can inexpensive goods, like Arco for instance, normally get away with selling such cheap gas? Many mechanics and energy experts I’ve spoken to about this agree that there are two types of gas: branded gas and more affordable gas. Additionally, branded gas frequently contains additives, which may drive up the price. But that begs the question: How effective are the additives? On that, the mechanisms are unclear.
Hobson: Is it dangerous for my engine if I go to a station at, say, Wal-Mart or Costco—those are the non-branded gases—?
Lazarus: How I wish I did. I asked a number of mechanics about it, and the majority of them answered, “Gas is gas.” And I consider it to be the main lesson here. However, they did acknowledge that there are variances. For instance, if you visit Chevron, Techron is there. Can Techron be trusted? Some mechanics assured me that yes, it will truly aid in engine cleaning. Not so much, according to some. I’m not sure, but maybe the generic thing is the worst of the worst.
Hobson: Therefore, we have market pricing and additives. Are those the only factors that affect how the gas behaves in various locations?
Lazarus: No. The business model is what we should be focusing on here, in my opinion. For instance, Arco. Arco is typically less expensive than nearby locations. What makes them do that? By simply refusing to accept credit cards, they avoid the associated interchange fees and are able to pass those savings through to their customers, keeping gas prices low. It’s a practical model.
Is ethanol-free fuel preferable for a BMW?
The pros and downsides are the same as switching between e10 and e85. Gas is more affordable with ethanol, and it also has better emissions, runs cooler, and helps us rely less on fossil fuels. However, you get worse gas mileage and require more fuel to provide the same amount of power. The ideal gasoline to use in your car is ethanol-free gas.
Where can I get the finest fuel for my BMW?
The addition of ethanol to petrol has become customary as a result of our continually growing dependence on oil. The main purposes of ethanol are to assist oxygenate the fuel and serve as a consumable, re-usable filler. The fuel known as E10 must contain 8–10% denatured ethanol to meet Top Tier regulations. Non-Top Tier fuels can range, and when too much ethanol is present, water is absorbed and over time accumulates at the bottom of the fuel tank beneath the lighter floating gasoline, which can cause rust and drivability problems. Although it is true that for the past ten years, the majority of BMW gasoline tanks have been made primarily of plastic, therefore rust is typically not an issue. By preventing deposits on fuel injectors, combustion chambers, and intake valves in particular, high-quality additive packages for Top Tier fuels assist in the maintenance of your engine’s internals (non-direct injection).
What fuel brand does BMW use?
Since 2015, BMW has advised using Shell V-Power(r) NiTRO+ Premium Gasoline in all BMW M vehicles, including the eagerly awaited M4 GTS.
America hasn’t had access to the greatest BMW M3 for 26 years, claims Road and Track. With the M4 GTS and a sizable allocation—300 out of the 700 vehicles planned—the US is now getting a piece of the action.
Where is the source of ARCO gas?
Oil business ARCO, which stands for Atlantic Richfield Company, has been a UK-based BP subsidiary since 2000 and is formally known as BP West Coast Products LLC. In 1966, Richfield Petroleum of California and Atlantic Refining of the East Coast merged to establish ARCO. It is renowned for having affordable gas prices when compared to other national brands, mostly as a result of a choice made in the early 1980s to prioritize cost savings (cash only policy) and alternate sources of income. La Palma, California serves as the home base for ARCO.
The Atlantic Petroleum Storage Company’s history dates back to 1866; in 1874, it joined the Standard Oil trust, but when Standard Oil was split up in 1911, it regained its independence. In 1968, the largest oil field in North America, Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, was discovered with the help of ARCO. Under the direction of its founder Robert Orville Anderson, ARCO bought Sinclair Oil in 1969. However, in the middle of the 1970s, the business sold off some of its Sinclair holdings, which allowed Sinclair to revert to being a private company. The Prudhoe Bay field was discovered on March 12, 1968, by Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO) and Exxon, with the well Prudhoe Bay State #1. Commercial oil development began in the Prudhoe Bay area in the 1960s.
In 1977, Montana’s Anaconda Copper Mining Company (ACM) and ARCO amalgamated. The Berkeley Pit and the Anaconda, Montana Smelter are two of ACM’s properties. “He hoped Anaconda’s resources and skills would help him establish a large shale-oil enterprise, but that the global oil glut and the dropping price of petroleum made shale oil moot,” the creator of ARCO said. The purchase was a mistake that ARCO later came to regret. Lack of hard-rock mining experience and a sharp decline in copper prices to below 70 cents per pound, the lowest in years, led ARCO to halt all operations in Butte, Montana. The Berkeley Pit was fully abandoned by 1983, just six years after purchasing the rights to the “Richest Hill on Earth.” By 1986, certain sites owned by ARCO had been sold to businessman and millionaire Dennis Washington, whose Montana Resources company ran a considerably smaller open-pit mine east of the abandoned Berkeley Pit.
Sunoco bought the Atlantic brand after it was spun off for ARCO’s East Coast stations. On the West Coast, the ARCO name is now recognized. By cutting out many extraneous features, such as requiring prepayment for petrol, not accepting credit cards at most sites, and charging $0.45 for using debit cards, ARCO has become a specialist in low-cost gas. The majority of the time, it shares branding with ampm convenience stores, another BP West Coast business.
