How can I improve my experience with the BMW sound system?

You have two options when looking to upgrade your BMW’s audio system: either new BMW amplifiers or better speakers. Speakers seem like a no-brainer to many people. Greater speakers will supposedly result in better sound because speakers produce the sound, right? Wrong. At the very least, it’s not that easy.

The signal driving a speaker determines how well it will sound, and in the majority of BMWs, the factory speakers are more than up to the task of driving the remainder of the BMW sound system. This isn’t to imply that the factory speakers are anything special—they might be anything but, depending on your original BMW audio system—but rather to say that the amplifier options at the lower end of BMW’s sound system options are lacking.

Changing the speakers on a BMW

The good thing is that upgrading your BMW aftermarket speakers will always allow you to improve your Harman Kardon system. especially when you consider that the versatile DSP and 10-channel HK amp is a capable workhorse.

It’s simple to improve your BMW speaker system, whether you have a Harman Kardon or another radio system, thanks to BMW audio specialists like BimmerTech. Since the Alpha One line of speakers is designed exclusively for BMWs, they can be installed in your vehicle in place of the factory BMW speakers without needing to be modified.

The powerful OEM BMW Harman Kardon amplifier is coupled with finely crafted BMW aftermarket speakers for even greater clarity and performance. It’s the best of both worlds. What is superior to that?

Explicit BMW Factory Audio

It’s crucial to understand which BMW audio system you have at the outset! The original equipment sound system from BMW comes in three different levels:

There are no tweeters or amplifiers in the six-speaker stereo system. The head unit supplies power to the speakers. The side mirrors’ inboard mesh tweeter grilles are missing.

The head unit signal has undergone significant equalization, while the back signal has undergone high-pass filtering. The front signal is as follows:

The front-facing tweeters and amp of the HiFi system. (While many 2010–2011 models have 8 speakers instead of the ten found in 2006–2009, the back tweeters were removed.) The head unit’s menu has only bass and treble settings, no graphic equalizer, and no “Surround On-Off” option. The dash does not have a center-channel speaker. Premium Audio Premium Sound, often known as “Top HiFi” within BMW, is marketed as:

All of these systems have a similar architecture, with comparable speaker dimensions, counts, placements, and channel complements.

A “Logic 7 On/Off” or “Surround On/Off” option, as well as visual equalizer settings, are always available for Premium Sound systems in the head unit’s menu.

Additionally, the E9x 3-series will include two sets of rear speakers and center-channel dash speakers (side and rear deck).

The center speaker and the second pair of rear speakers will not be present on the E82/7 1-series (so check the head unit menu for the equalizer).

Can the sound system in a BMW be upgraded?

You will be given a variety of buying alternatives depending on the factory OEM equipment that is currently installed in your car. We can find out how many and what kind of BMW speakers your car has thanks to its special VIN number.

Your vehicle may be equipped with one of three basic OEM versions of BMW audio equipment. The catch is that upgrading from one version to a higher one is difficult, but you may still replace the factory-installed equipment on your car with aftermarket parts. What manufacturer stereo version do you possibly have then?

What sound system comes standard in a BMW?

Can I add Harman Kardon to my BMW?

If your BMW has HK, upgrading is not an issue for us at all. In fact, even if it takes a little longer, a vehicle with HK will ultimately provide even higher sound quality than a vehicle without HK.

The information below applies to the BMW 3,4,Z4,5,6,7, and 8 Series vehicles because they all feature an optical link between the infotainment system and the amplifier.

In a car with HK, the audio data is output digitally and delivered to the HK amplifier via the MOST ring, an optical loop that connects the audio components in the vehicle. The HK amplifier is located in the boot of the car. We can extract the audio data and deliver it optically to the Hertz H8 DSP by removing the HK amplifier and replacing it with a 24 BIT MOST Optical Interface. The time alignment, equalization, and crossovers are all performed on the audio data in the digital domain as it passes through the Hertz H8 DSP; the audio data is only transformed to an analog signal and sent to the JL Audio amplifier when it leaves the Hertz H8 DSP. Because of the exceptionally clean signal path, the accuracy, dynamic range, and sound quality are superb.

For complete compatibility, we must upgrade various system components when moving from a Harman Kardon-equipped vehicle. We must also replace the JL Audio 3 channel amp with a JL Audio 5 channel amp and add the 24 BIT MOST Optical Iterface to interface with the factory audio.

For automobiles with Optical Harman Kardon technology, there are two system upgrade possibilities:

BMW System 2 Plus with a 24 BIT MOST Optical Interface costs PS2495 in total. This system utilizes the original Harman Kardon under-seat subwoofers rather of the more popular Audison subwoofers.

A BMW System 3 Plus with a 24 BIT MOST Optical Interface costs PS2995 in total.

PLEASE NOTE: Although we are working on it, we do not yet offer a digital interface for ID7-equipped late G Chassis BMWs.

The informationtainment system and amplifier are connected analogically in the BMW 1, 2, and X1 and X2 Series, negating the requirement for the 24 BIT MOST Optical Interface.

Following are the two system upgrade choices for analog HK cars:

The original Harman Kardon under-seat subwoofers are used in the BMW System 2 Plus from Analogue HK, model number PS2199, rather than the Audison subwoofers.

The BMW Operating System 7 is available for update.

Remote software rollout and upgrade. BMW Operating System 7 vehicles built starting in July 2021 already have the most recent version, including all new features. Customers can check the vehicle settings under Remote Software Upgrade to view the software version and see if any upgrades are available.

Am I able to just upgrade my auto speakers?

You recently purchased a brand-new automobile or truck, and you adore it. There aren’t any M&Ms or stray french fries beneath the seat, despite the fact that it smells good, looks good, and drives beautifully. (Yet.) awesome, and congrats. Put the stereo on and get in the driver’s seat. Loud. as in VERY, VERY LOUD.

Two things, assuming you’ve already done them: 1) We’re not here to make you feel bad or tell you anything you don’t already know, like how terrible your new car audio is; and 2) You’re not the only one. The reality is that every new car and truck comes with a subpar sound system (even premium sound systems can be improved upon, believe it or not). The good news is that you won’t have to spend a fortune or sacrifice your car’s sleek OEM appearance to upgrade the sound system. Soon, I’ll say more about that.

The BMW Premium Sound Package is what?

BMW’s HiFi (S676A) option puts the stereo audio system one notch above the Base model. As was previously said, practically all automobiles sold in the North American market are equipped with a HiFi system as standard equipment, although in the rest of the globe, it is an optional extra.

With tweeters (often two), an additional midrange in the dashboard (typically present in later cars), and an 8-channel amplifier in the trunk, the BMW HiFi sound system offers a notable improvement (7 of 8 channels are used to power the speakers). This implies that each speaker, or speaker pair (in the case of the midrange+tweeter channels), has a separate amplifier channel. Since the amplifier in the trunk has significantly more power than the one within the head unit, this is a significant upgrade over the Base system. As a result, the system can now play louder and with less distortion than Base models. The woofers utilized in the BMW HiFi speaker system are also more capable than their Base counterparts thanks to the more potent amplifier; they have a 2 Ohm impedance, go deeper with the bass, and provide cleaner sound at higher levels. However, the bottom end wallop provided by the OEM amplifier would still be insufficient, which is why upgrading the HiFi system with a potent Premium Audio System is so advantageous.

Which audio system does a BMW have?

strong, explosive, and simply overwhelming. Designers and acousticians from Harman Kardon have been collaborating with BMW M for more than 30 years with the goal of entrancing the passengers of each model’s interior with a detailed, balanced sound. And it doesn’t matter from where you’re sitting, due to Logic 7 from Harman Kardon. The music is converted so that the full sound may be heard in all seating areas, including the back seats.
