According to the mobile devices, there may be a wide range of compatibility between mobile devices and your BMW’s vehicle interfaces (Bluetooth(r), USB, or WiFi). Your smartphone or tablet’s hardware and software components will determine compatibility.

Industry-wide communications standards serve as the foundation for all BMW features. Lack of support for a standard by your mobile device could result in functional limitations. It might not always be possible to use your smartphone or tablet through the in-car interface. There may be periodic disturbances in exceptional circumstances. The size of the phone book, the SIM card being used, the individual network operator, different rules, or the mobile device’s operating mode are all potential contributing factors.

Please be aware that each country may have a different level of function availability. BMW is unable to bear responsibility for your mobile device’s unrestricted compatibility and functionality with car interfaces.

BMW iDrive is it free?

All eligible BMW vehicles with the software installed are eligible for free registration with ConnectedDrive. For three years, most BMW vehicles come standard with it. BMW offers the majority of the Digital Services capabilities separately or as a trial since it understands that not all owners will want or require all of the ConnectedDrive functions.

The majority of these have different prices, ranging from PS1 for a one-month trial of real-time traffic data to PS79 for a map update for the My Journey system. BMW, on the other hand, offers four ConnectedDrive packages that range in price from PS59 to PS239 and run for a full year. As the price rises, each bundle includes more ConnectedDrive features.

Only BMWs with the most recent OS7 infotainment system and up receive Apple CarPlay for free, which may surprise some BMW owners. When their BMWs reach their third anniversary, some owners will still be required to pay up to PS265 for Apple CarPlay. In 2020, BMW vehicles finally offered Android Auto connectivity as an option, providing wireless integration to the vehicle’s infotainment system at no additional cost.

What is the version of the iDrive software?

The iDrive system’s navigation is a crucial component that makes getting from A to B simple. But since roads and sites of interest constantly change, it’s critical to maintain your BMW’s GPS maps updated if you want to get the most out of your iDrive.

Many of the most recent BMW models include over-the-air (OTA) map updates, which use the vehicle’s integrated SIM card to automatically download the most recent map data. The procedure in these automobiles is comparable to updating your smartphone to the most recent iOS or Android version; all you have to do is restart your car after your iDrive has downloaded the data.

For vehicles that do not allow OTA updates, a manual upgrade is necessary. Previously, updating BMW navigation maps required changing a DVD holding the map data. More newer vehicles include built-in hard drives that hold the data, allowing you to update your map by overwriting the hard drive’s contents. You can accomplish this with BMW by connecting a USB stick with the updated map data to the USB port in your vehicle.

It’s a good idea to determine which map version you need, which relies on your iDrive system, before purchasing a new BMW map. Use the settings menu when your iDrive navigation is open to navigate to “Navigation system version,” where you can see the region, version, and year of your current GPS data.

Please upgrade iDrive 5 to iDrive 6.

I made the decision not to (have 2017 also). I somewhat prefer how the idrive 5 looks. If the five series’ idrive 6 had gesture control or the parking option, I would move to it. I dislike the enormous blocks of information, and the menu does not appear as attractive when you zoom out to see a bigger selection. The next thing with idrive 5 that I don’t like is that it forgets to turn on AUTOH (the handbrake in traffic, which idrive 4 also did not have but idrive 6 in the five series does), and the seatbelt chime sound is quite obnoxious and it starts straight away if you do not fasten your seatbelt. I really don’t want idrive 6, but I’m scared that if I enhance the performance or add performance brakes, they’ll update the software and install it. The one improvement to the graphics on the 6WB that I would enjoy is that the visuals on the facelifted 4 series series appear better (but have zero clue how it looks for 2018 X5). Although I don’t own a M vehicle, some of the aforementioned still holds true. Cheers

“We regret to inform you that your vehicle’s iDrive 5.0 system cannot be upgraded to the iDrive 6.0 system. We sincerely regret any trouble this may have caused.”

When you spend $120,000 on one of their vehicles and they are unable to change the software, it is very depressing.

I apologize for bringing up an old question, but does the touchscreen still function while coding this? Or are there any things that you would get in a more recent automobile that aren’t present?

Is the problem that it graphically represents the erroneous car in the display still present? Does it still not show an X5 after this patch has been coded in?
