My 335i appears to simply have a “ON-OFF” switch, which also turns on the dome light in the back seat. Perhaps there are some iDrive settings that I’m missing.

The only thing I was told to do was press the BMW logo button on my FOB to turn everything off fully, which of course locks all the doors.
I didn’t anticipate this from BMW, but extended commutes certainly reduce battery life.
None of my other vehicles, including the newest Mercedes, Lexus, and Corvette models, operate in this manner.

I have a US Spec M340i, and it appears that I am in the same situation as you in that turning off the dome lights permanently also turns off the door handle lights and the light carpet.
That’s awful. The carpet lighting and door handle lights are nice. But since I don’t think the interior lighting is excessively bright, I don’t turn it off.
The interior light switch in my ex-A4 just turned off the interior dome lights. not the handle lights on the outside. Additionally, you may alter the brightness by tapping the touch-sensitive dome lights. I would have loved it if BMW had also included that technology in the G20, but yea.
