How do I turn off the inside lighting that turns on when I unlock or open a door on a BMW 1 Series?
When reading the manual and using the forum’s quick search function, I was unable to locate any information about shutting off the inside illumination when unlocking or opening the car.
I want to turn off the interior illumination when I open and lock the car, as shown in the photo above. (The headliner and dome lights)
When I used the idrive system to unlock the car, I was able to turn off the external illumination.

Have you checked the iDrive section for interior lighting? I think you can control how long the lights are on. Your map lights’ middle switch should also be turned on. I think that controls whether or not your interior lights turn on when the doors open.
I’m responding because I have the solution. To turn on the inside lights, you must push the ignition button twice. two times: once to turn off the engine and once to turn off iDrive. The dome lights will then come on.
