The headlights turn on as you get into the car and turn on the power. I can use the voice command “display off” to turn off the display, but what about the headlights (angel eyes)? Is there a way to turn them off while keeping the electricity on?
The stereo may be turned on without pressing the power button. Though it automatically shuts off after around 20 minutes.
Okay, I appreciate all the comments. I was overworked at work after I submitted this, so I only looked this morning.
The easy fix of simply turning off the lights doesn’t work unless the DRL option in settings is unchecked. This fixes the issue and works perfectly. Turning off the lights at the switch is ineffective if the DRL box in the settings is checked. In this case, the lights will still be on.
Where is the option to disable DRL? In the settings, I can’t seem to find it anywhere.
Funny thing is, I tried your advice after totally turning off the car. When I hit the volume button or wheel, the radio and iDrive screen turned on, but pressing the Radio button next to the iDrive knob had no effect on me.
When the car’s other components are running in addition to the engine, that is what happens. Just knowing that you can wait in your car with the radio only on and no DRLs is good. That has always given me the willies.
Remove the BMW’s battery plug.
The next step is to unhook your battery if altering your light control settings does not solve the problem and the lights continue to stay on even after you switch off your car. Doing this first would be beneficial before attempting any other scenarios involving the removal of controllers, switches, modules, fuses, and the like.
For your BMW to power cycle and reset every module, disconnect the battery from the vehicle and wait at least 10 minutes before plugging it back in. Depending on your BMW module, you might need to enter a number of codes related to various items, such the radio, in order for it to work. But if taking out the battery does fix the issue with your headlights, you can easily get whatever codes you need from your dealer.

Anyone have problems with their automatic headlights? When I get into my car, even if I don’t turn the key, my headlights start to come on automatically. I turned my headlights off, but when I got back in my car, they were back on and in the automatic setting. Just a minor irritation, nothing serious.
Without any prior knowledge, I’m just speculating, but have you tried holding the off button for a few seconds?
However, given the prevalence of automation, I wouldn’t be shocked if this became the standard. Since automatic headlights are now included in the standard equipment and are not even an option.
If you have it set to auto, it will automatically turn on when it becomes dark outside. The smaller lights that are constantly on are daytime running lights, if that is what you mean.
Why do the lights on my BMW stay on?
I have no idea why sometimes my headlights seem to stay on after I get out of the car. The lights occasionally stay on, which is far more frequently than I would expect considering the obvious lack of an engine. During the night when they are awake, my neighbors have contacted me a few times.
What might be the root of this? The keys are taken out of the vehicle when I depart since I keep them in my pocket while I drive.
Is the key close enough to the car when it is parked at home to “wake” it up? The lights are always on when I glance at my car in the garage, but that’s only because it activates when the key is nearby. It is set to automatically unlock. It’s always off when I check it without the key in my pocket.
After you’ve locked the doors and stepped out of the car, the lights continue to be on for a while. Headlight courtesy delay feature is how BMW refers to it.
We discovered that the headlights and interior LED lights would stay on for a long period if the driver door was opened before the car was turned off. To see if it helps, try making sure to shut off the engine before opening the driver door.
My machine is programmed to do this, and in the dark garage, it is always on a delay off.

On a BMW 3 Series, where is the parking light located?
This typically occurs because the light bulb has reached the end of its useful life or has become faulty for some other reason. If you want to make this quick remedy more affordable, you can either replace it yourself at home with a new BAX9S H6W 434 BULB or take it to the garage for expert assistance.
The headlight assembly of a BMW 3 from the 2012–2019 series houses the parking lights, DRLs, low beam, high beam, and turn signal indication bulb all in one unit. Parking lamps are situated at the top inside corner of the high beam. Therefore, it is essential that you use the correct bulb when trying to identify and fix the problem. The small 6w bulb used in BMW parking lights is typically accessible from the top of the headlamp assembly via a detachable cover.
Many internet retailers provide replacement bulbs, but xenons4u is a reliable source for authentic car parts where you can get genuine BMW parts and bulbs. Now that you have bought the right part, it’s time to change the bulb.
Why won’t the lights in my car go out?
One of the most frequent causes of interior car lights turning off is that the control knob has been turned. This is most likely the cause if your dome light is on.
If you are unable to shut it off, one of your car’s switches is likely locked in the on position. To reduce the brightness or completely turn off the light, you might try changing the dome light switch.
If altering it doesn’t reduce the brightness or the lights are still on, your dome light switch is damaged. To prevent your car’s battery from being drained until you can have it serviced, you might wish to remove the bulb.
Why do my dash lights keep coming on?
Unclean, deteriorated, or frayed battery wiring might result in fluctuating lighting and dash lights that continue to operate even when the ignition is turned off. Because battery acid can leak from deteriorated battery terminals, maintaining the cables is preferable to preventing electric outages.

Inclement weather is one scenario on the road where drivers should utilize their headlights during the day. Legally, certain jurisdictions, like California and Alabama, demand that headlights be turned on whenever wipers are in use.

Although using parking lights while driving is permitted, they don’t cast enough light for you to drive safely at night. If you are caught driving in the dark without your main or dipped headlights on, you could receive a PS50 fine.
Do interior lights deplete batteries?
Your car’s battery will be drained if you leave the inside lights on all night. If you leave the interior lights on while the car is off, they will quickly drain a battery that is weak or towards the end of its life. The battery is not intended to keep these systems functioning when the automobile is not turned on; instead, it is made to keep things on while you are driving and for brief durations after you turn off the ignition.
Some more recent vehicles have lights that turn off automatically when you lock your car. Others even turn the lights out after a predetermined amount of time. They are constructed in this manner expressly to avoid this issue. Some automobiles, though, do not have this feature. The interior lights in your car will drain the battery if you leave them on while it is parked.
