- Once the dash lights are all lit up, turn the ignition key to position II. Put a smart key in the ignition if you have one. The “Engine Start/Stop” button should be pressed without applying the brakes.

First, while the engine is running, push the odometer trip meter once to reset it to zero. Then turn the ignition off once more. (I discovered that this step was crucial since without it, I couldn’t access the “Service” option.)
You are now prepared to do the next reset steps:
1. Turn on the ignition so that the parking brake, oil, and battery lights are illuminated and the key is ready to start the engine, but refrain from doing so.

5. Press and hold the button for between 5 and 10 seconds while momentarily releasing it to reveal the new date in the bottom display. The updated Brake Fluid date will then show up in the service menu on the i-drive screen the following time you turn the ignition on.
6. Repeat steps 1 and 2 above in order to reset the Oil, Microfilter, or Brake Pad indicators, but when you reach to step 3 and the Brake Fluid icon appears, simply release the button and press it again, and the next service item will display.
7. You can keep pushing and releasing the button until the icon for the necessary service item for the device you want to reset appears. Hold the button down until the word “RESET?” appears once more as in step 4 above as soon as it occurs. When the phrase “RESET?” appears, you must release the button momentarily and then hold it in again for roughly 5 to 10 seconds until the new service interval number appears in its place.
Go through steps 1, 2, and 6 above until you are comfortable with (and certain of) what you want to reset before actually doing so. After the initial “Service” symbol appears, repeat this a few times and keep track of the order in which the other icons appear.
If you accidentally press the button too firmly against an object you don’t want to reset and the message “RESET?” shows, just let off of the button for around 10 seconds, and the object won’t be able to be reset. (Alternatively, simply turn off the ignition and start it again.)
Sometimes, if the button has not been immediately released and pressed again, the German technical writing will appear after 15 to 20 seconds instead of the Service item icon you were hoping to see. (If this occurs, simply turn off the ignition and restart.)

A step that isn’t on the list below was added by me. Apart from that, everything proceeded as instructed until I saw the service triangle appear in the dash, at which point I had to press the iDrive button.

Getting the micro filter reset is pretty much as simple as that. That’s it, and iDrive displays a pleasant ending:
Simply rapidly press the button to scroll through them for everything else. To enter and to reset, hold down the button both times.
My cabin air filter’s service light for the microfilter turned on a few months ago. Since I took my time updating it, the service alert was empty when I checked on it today. It indicates that it needs maintenance, yet the date and mileage information for this service are both just “—-“. I’ve included a photo.
I entered and followed the reset instructions, and as expected, the clock will rotate and the message “resetting” will appear. However, the service indicator remains blank and only displays “—-” instead of being cleared.
Anybody figure this out? As this began when my battery ran flat, before that it was ok. I may unplug the battery for an hour and see if that helps.
I tried to reset the pollen filter after disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes, but the clock just spun and the screen remained blank.
I then tried disconnecting the battery for an hour, it worked, and the warning “service due” disappeared.

- The screen will appear as in the image above after a little period, at which point the menu will once again appear at the top. To access the number 21 menu, press the odometer button.
- On the screen’s bottom, it will say: RESET? To complete the reset, press the odometer button.
