You will experience some resistance as you move the shifter further to the left, followed by a click.
You shouldn’t need to pause the shifter before clicking over once you know where R is and what the little click does.

Hi All, The 2011 135i 6MT that I own won’t shift into reverse. The shifter will partially “fall” into backward gear if I move it to the far left and then forward. With the car running/driving and without, all of the other gears engage without any issues. Even when the engine is off, the vehicle won’t entirely go into reverse. The car has 59K miles now, having been purchased used last year with 52K miles. I never had a problem. I’m not sure if or when the tranny fluid was last changed, but that will probably be my next move. wishing to avoid taking it to a dealer. We appreciate any assistance!

Nope. I took it to BMW, who wanted $3500 for a replacement tranny but graciously suggested that the problem was with the reverse pin, which needed to be replaced. I’m not sure if I want to handle this on my own or perhaps hire a nearby tranny company to do it for just $1500 to fix. I suppose it’s pretty uncommon to experience this; I’m just fortunate.
My 135i is currently experiencing the same problem; a replacement transmission was estimated to cost over $6,000 merely because the reverse linkage or gear will not engage. The dealer advised me to contact BMW NA because they had only made a $1,200 offer for a replacement transmission.
It appears that BMW NA is acknowledging a problem but is hesitant to fully accept it and treat the customer fairly.
