You must perform the following in order to enter your BMW’s trunk while the battery is dead:
- By depressing the release button on the rear of the fob, you can remove the secret key from your key fob.
- Find the slot where your manual key goes. On select BMW models, the trunk or the lid may have a manual key slot. In that case, open the trunk.
- Find the door’s keyhole. Try the door if you can’t find anywhere to use a key on the trunk. Particularly the driver’s side door is likely to feature a place for a manual key. If so, open the car door.
- eject the concealed key container. If there doesn’t seem to be a key slot on your door, it might be hidden in a hidden compartment under the door handle. The key slot can be seen if you wedge the key into the opening beneath the compartment and pop it off. Lock the vehicle.
- For trunk access, fold down the back seats. Your jumper cables will be available to you at this time. But if you want to access the trunk from this position, a rectangular tab can be found inside the door of the trunk. When the tab is removed, a wire ought to follow. The trunk will open if the wire is pulled.

placed a sound system in place. In line with the battery is the capacitor (mistake). Due to the dead battery, I am unable to open the trunk. I am unable to jump start the car or charge the battery using the positive pole up front because of the capacitor. Is there a way to get the trunk open so I may get rid of the dreadful capacitor?
Connect booster cables to the under-the-hood connectors. The car won’t start, but the inside equipment, including the trunk release button, will operate.
I suppose you could use the button on the Key Fob if you didn’t have access to the trunk release button inside the cabin?
If the ski-hatch/center storage compartment is blocked by your subwoofer, you may be able to force the trunk shut if it is not totally closed (that is, if the electronic lock hasn’t engaged and there is still an inch around the perimeter).
I’m afraid you’ll need to hire a BMW garage to disassemble the trunk if your trunk is entirely locked, you can’t go through the ski-hatch, and you’re quite certain you can’t use the connections beneath the hood. I’m worried it won’t be inexpensive.
I disconnected the battery in my 2009 Z4. The trunk accidentally locked and closed (oh shit). A positive post located underneath the hood is utilized to jump start the car. I connected a portable auto starter to the positive post and grounded it to the body before turning it on. The trunk did indeed open once I pushed the open trunk button.
Re: Locked out, dead battery, and dead keys
Replace the battery, open the door with the key, and unlock the boot (hopefully the new battery will trigger the central locking or similar).
Go get a Stanley, open the key up, and buy a replacement battery for it if it doesn’t work.
Alternatively, if it’s a roadster, stick a long, VERY THIN bamboo cane with a hook on the end (you’ll have to make this yourself) through the top of the driver’s or passenger’s window where it meets the roof, run it all the way across the interior until you reach the door handle, hook the hook around, and pull.

To bring power to the front of the car, the ignition and starter feeds, you should be able to apply 12v jumpleads to the underbonnet connections. As previously indicated, don’t start the car until you’ve checked that the battery is connected in the boot. The boot should be able to be opened so you can check the battery connection if 12v is connected to the jump start posts beneath the bonnet. Check to see if the safety connector on the + battery connection hasn’t blown to sever the connection since the car was hit. Use a meter on the under-the-hood connection to check for 12 volts after connecting a reliable battery. When the ignition key is inserted and the ignition is turned on, the car should recognize that a puka key is being used and should silence the alert if it triggers. Once the power is back on, it should be easy to reset the key fob functions by pressing a series of buttons on each key in turn. If you search on this site, you can find a thread that describes how to accomplish this.
Three approaches to test:
Approach 1:
1. Operating inside the car with the doors closed
2. Within five seconds, switch the ignition from position 1 to off.
3. After removing the ignition key, press and hold the unlock button for 15 seconds. Then, within a 5-second interval, press the key lock button three times.
4. Let go of the buttons.
5. Doors will lock and unlock to demonstrate that proper programming has taken place.
Approach 2:
One key that is already programmed and one key that needs to be programmed are required for this procedure.
1) Enter and lock every door.
2) Start the ignition and swiftly turn it off. Start the process now (no more than 5 seconds). 30 seconds must pass before the next action is taken.
3. Take out the first key.
4) To put the key closer to the antenna on the remote receiver, hold it up towards your left shoulder.
5) Press the lock button three times while keeping the unlock button depressed. As soon as the unlock button is released, the doors lock to authenticate the procedure.
6) Quickly carry out steps 4 and 5 for key #2 and so forth.
If that doesn’t work, try pressing the keys in reverse. vs. 1 then 2, key 2 then key 1
Approach 3:
1. Quickly turn the key to position 1 five times. 2. Take out the key. 3. Hold the unlock button while pressing the lock button three times.
4. Within 30 seconds, press the same button if you have another key. 5. To complete, turn on the ignition.
PLEASE NOTE: This programming process modifies the key’s remote control component. Any transponder chip used by the immobilizer (which prevents the automobile from starting) cannot be programmed; this must be done by a professional.

On a BMW Z4, how do you access the boot?
The driver’s side door pocket has a button that releases the truck. My RHD car lacks a button like that. USA spec #5 is trunk.
How do you manually open the trunk of a BMW?
You might want to check out this way to unlock a locked trunk manually from inside if your BMW doesn’t have a key slot: To access the trunk, you simply need to move to the backseats of your car, release and pull down the center piece of your seats. Once there, all you need to do is pull the emergency release handle to start moving. Naturally, your BMW must come equipped with an emergency release handle.
How can I manually open the trunk of my Mini Cooper?
The manual hatchback release cable is a cord with a round loop at the end that you can see if you pull up the cushion and place it in front of the middle seat belt anchors. You can manually unlock the hatchback latch by pulling forward on the cable, which will let you access the batteries underneath the cargo area’s floor.
How do you use a screwdriver to open a trunk?
Step 1: Enter your vehicle
Get inside your automobile first as it’s unlocked. The flathead screwdriver can be inserted between the car door and car frame if it is locked and you don’t have a key and the vehicle is locked. Push the car door open, then reach inside with a coat hanger for the key to unlock it. Get inside the vehicle when you’ve successfully unlocked it to move on to the next phase.
Step 2: Pull out the backseat after pushing the front seat of the vehicle.
The front seat should be moved forward because you will need room inside the vehicle to move about. The bolt holding the bottom and back of the seat together must then be removed in order to remove the backseat. For this stage, a wrench is needed. You can now remove the backseat after removing the bolt.
Step 3: Enter the trunk and search for the metal bar there.
You must crawl inside the trunk in order to open it from the inside. You might take a different approach or have someone else complete this stage if you are uncomfortable in small surroundings. Since you need to search for the horizontal metal bar, don’t forget to carry a flashlight. Look for the box next to the metal bar once you’ve found it.
Step 4: Use the screwdriver to open the box.
Once you’ve located the box, use the screwdriver to open it clockwise. The trunk will open on its own. Don’t forget to put everything back where it belongs after you exit the vehicle.
If you want to use a screwdriver to open a trunk from the outside, all you have to do is use a flathead screwdriver to pry open the latch. As soon as the screwdriver is in position, move it to the left and the right until the lock is unlocked. Your car’s trunk lock could be damaged by this procedure, though.
