Regarding the 1200s, I’m not sure, but Jim Shaw lowered his R1150GS by adding R1150RT shocks. It was completed at Ohio’s Mathias BMW. You could check to see if the R1200R shock won’t fit well on the GS.

BMW Motorrad has excellent news for riders who prefer a lower seat height but do not want to compromise on model choice as a result of extensive consumer research. BMW Motorrad has once again set the bar high by introducing a line of cars that may be purchased with lowered suspension, giving customers the choice of a lower seat height.
Controlling a vehicle at lower speeds can be challenging, especially when riding motorcycles with a higher seat height, according to feedback from female, inexperienced, and shorter riders. For most of its models, BMW Motorrad already provides a lower seat as a factory-fit option (at no additional cost), but some riders demand a seat that is even lower. When their feet can be planted firmly on the ground, especially in stop-start situations, motorcycle riders feel more safe. Naturally, comfortably, and safely, more riders will be able to achieve this thanks to BMW’s new lower suspension bikes.
For instance, the F 800 S and ST bikes’ current reduced suspension option lowers the seat height from the usual 840mm to 760mm. Since its introduction in 2007, a startling 45% of BMW buyers have chosen this option when placing their order for a new vehicle.
The speedy F 800 S, its sports touring descendant, the F 800 ST, the “naked” R 1200 R roadster, the best-selling R 1200 RT touring vehicle, and the new F 650 GS and R 1200 GS enduros are the six models that can be purchased with reduced suspension.
Due to its “long-travel suspension” enduro style and roomy ergonomics, the classic R 1200 GS was frequently associated with taller or more assured riders. The bike’s standard adjustable seat has a seat height range of 855mm to 875mm. However, this model may now be chosen with a seat height of only 790mm thanks to the addition of the new lowered suspension option, making this well-liked all-arounder accessible to a much wider range of riders.
Although the seats on all BMW factory-engineered lowered suspension bikes are low, each model’s actual lowering modification from the base vehicle varies. Bikes like the F 800 ST have front forks that have been lowered through the yokes and a shorter rear shock absorber. Boxer engineered bikes, like the R 1200 RT and R 1200 GS, accomplish the lower positioning by modifying the front and rear shock absorbers to have a shorter strut. Changes have been made to the Telelever’s settings.
The cost of each model’s buying price is increased by PS90 for the factory installation of lowered suspension.
BMW Motorrad UK’s Tony Jakeman, the marketing manager, stated: “The technical philosophy at BMW Motorrad is to provide the best motorcycle designs possible. The continued improvement of rider safety and enjoyment is a top priority when choosing models and features. Our objective of providing riders with custom motorcycles while also increasing the appeal of our models to a wider range of customers is continued with the introduction of our extensive selection of reduced suspension models.”
