Let’s keep going with the second remedy. This one is performed on a variety of benches. In spite of the fact that the push-button model is more traditional, we’ll concentrate on the technique to use if your BMW 4 Series has buttons that are positioned at the same level as the bench’s headrests and backrests. You should be able to complete this layout even more easily because it is more common. These buttons must be located; typically there are two, one at each end of the seat, at the upper seat belt clip. Once located, press each button simultaneously, one at a time, to move the seat back, flip it front, and collapse the back seat of your BMW 4 Series.

The Mercedes C-Class Cabriolet loses to the 4 Series, which has a little larger boot than the Audi A5 Cabriolet. Similar to those convertibles, you’ll notice that there is a little bit more room while the roof is up than when it is down.
The rear backrest can be folded via a convenient boot lever, however it only folds down in one piece, unlike the more adaptable 50/50 split in the A5. In contrast, the optional wind deflector for the 4 Series can be stored vertically in a cubby behind its rear seats, whereas the A5’s deflector takes up valuable boot room when not in use.
Do the back seats of a BMW 4 Series fold down?
The Audi A5 and Mercedes C-Class Coupe, the 4 Series’ two primary rivals, both have a somewhat larger trunk than the 4 Series. However, there is enough for a small buggy or a set of golf equipment, and the rear seats can be folded down to accommodate longer loads.
Do the back seats on the BMW 3 Series fold up?
The adaptable 40/20/40 split folding rear seatbacks that are standard on all models are far more practical than the 60/40 split found on many competitors, including the Superb. Utilizing convenient levers located in the boot, you can fold the seats.
In a BMW M4, can the back seats be folded down?
The boot is similar in size to that of the RS5. It has the advantage of being a very straightforward square shape, which enables us to fit seven bags in the boot. It’s only a shame that, unlike the Audi, you can’t fold down the back seats to carry a longer load.
Do the back seats on the BMW 5 Series fold up?
flexibility and seat folding But the fact that the back seats don’t automatically fold is unfortunate. They can split 40/20/40 and fold down, but unlike the Audi A6, you have to pay extra for a “through-load system.” The 5 Series now has this feature, which makes the folding seats practically flat.
How is the middle seat in a BMW X1 folded?
Where the seat bottom joins the seat back, look for a pull loop. On my 2018 model, there are 3, allowing for a 40/20/40 split. If available, a lever located on the side above the cubby compartments may be used to detach the back seats from the trunk.
According to what I understand, the seats will be able to fold regardless of the accessories you have installed, whether it is by a pull tab or a lever positioned on the trunk. Even for BMW, it would be ridiculous to offer THAT as a choice in a vehicle of this caliber.
The “slide and recline rear seats” option does exactly what it says on the tin: it allows the back seats to slide forward and backward and somewhat recline. Since I don’t have either the lever or sliding rear seats, the trunk lever might also be an alternative. However, they still fold using the tabs.
Just to reiterate what has already been said, if the OP is merely asking if they fold “flat,” that is a common feature and they do.
This is distinct from the recline and slide option, which allows the back seats to somewhat recline and move back and forth. Sadly, the lever that is usually included with this option and is situated in the trunk above the cubbies is not included with the option that I have in my MY21 USA model. I’m unsure if this only applies to my USA-built vehicle or if BMW discontinued that feature.
Not including the $300 “Sliding and Reclining Rear Seat Adjustment” add-on option
All X1 (f48) rear seats can be folded forward so they lie flat, as previous commenters have mentioned. Pulling the cloth loops is required to fold the back seats. The lever for the adjustable sliding/reclining feature of your car is located below the front edge of the seat base. If you do not hold the seat back when drawing the loops, the seat will drop into a fully flat (almost) position. The loops can also be used to modify the angle of the seat backrest. Pushing the seat back up into an upright, secured position requires pulling and holding the loops.
In earlier models, it was possible to detach the back seat from the trunk or boot using two levers located above the side cubby pockets. The only function of these remote switches was release, and the seats had to be manually raised. The right hand switch in my car kept breaking. As far as I know, the boot/trunk release was abandoned in 2020. I have included images for the sliding adjustment and seat back release loop. To actually read your car’s handbook, you might find it helpful. I also found the free BMW drivers guide app for smartphones and tablets (including the iPad) to be helpful. You can get it from the App Store or Google Play Store. The app will display features and serve as an electronic manual for your particular automobile because it is VIN-specific. From the app is the image that is attached.
Does the BMW 330e have retractable back seats?
The 330e’s ability to accommodate large loads is restricted by a small boot opening and is only offered in saloon form. Additionally, the total amount of luggage space is decreased to 370 liters by the lithium-ion battery pack under the boot floor. To accommodate longer loads, split-folding rear seats are a highly recommended optional addition.

It’s simple to become confused because seat controls vary from automobile to car. Fortunately, it’s not too difficult to fold down your chairs. You must first discover the type of controls you have in your new BMW 5 Series before you can fold the back seats down.
- Simply pull on the strap if there is one and push the seatbacks down and forward. The straps could be on top, close to the headrest, or between your seats.
- You must either push the button or pull the lever to lower your seatbacks if there are buttons or levers between the seats.
- You must depress the knob on any seats that have one at the backrest level in order to flip the seats down. Some models will have two knobs rather than simply one, depending on the design.

Has the BMW f30 had foldable seats?
BMW UK claims that the new LCI 3-series DOES NOT by default have folding rear seats, with the exception of the Touring model, after much confusion and debate. You must select the “40:20:40 split/folding rear seats” option if you want them to fold.
In my pre-LCI 3-series, the rear seat folded 60:40 by default, and I believe there was a more involved option for people who wanted through-loading.
Only the F31 features folding seats as standard, as said. The F32 Coupe has also been updated to not include it by default. In the E92 Coupe, it came as standard.
My car was a stock order when I bought it, and it came with the interior comfort package, which I assumed I would never use. Last weekend, I went to IKEA because I wanted a new cupboard. I bought two enormous boxes that were 190 cm long.
I took a chance and bought them. When I got to the parking lot, the rear seats were folded and nicely fit in. Onlookers were amazed at how I managed to get this enormous box into the back of a 3 series!
Up until this point, I believed the option was a complete waste of money, but from this point forward, I will always look to specify it when purchasing a vehicle!
I’ve had split-fold rear seats in my 2006 new e90 320i for the past nine years. I learned my lesson, and the PS250 I spent on the new 330i’s folding rear seats was the finest money I’ve ever spent.
I agree with what was said above. This was my first BMW, and I regret getting it so soon after it was introduced to the public.
It has always been an option, either as a standalone choice or a component of a comfort pack. It was a deal breaker for me when I was considering purchasing a used 3 series; I didn’t care about the M Sport Plus pack, heated seats, etc., but it had to have folding rear seats. You’d be shocked at how few people have them.
In this day and age, on a motor that costs PS37k new, it is a fecking p!ss take. Since mine is an AUC, I’ve never had the option, so I was surprised that it wasn’t standard (I get that a 40:20:40 or even 60:40 folding seat would be an option, but how expensive to design and produce would that be!)
