The red release button is held in place by a copper clip, and underneath it is a right and left cam mechanism that can be removed without changing how the release button functions.

I don’t think it contains any foreign objects, and if the vertical copper clip is a spring, it must have sprung by now because I don’t understand how the release button works. The horizontal bar that engages the male slot cannot fully extend if the release button is not fully up; it can only do so partially. just enough to keep the seat belt in place flimsily and turn off the seat belt warning light.

I really don’t want to undertake a new installation, and I know that BMW will demand at least two hours of labor for the $140 item.

My car needs to get inspected here in New York before the month is out. Hope the mechanic doesn’t put the seat belt on when he pulls into the shop if it isn’t fixed.

My greatest concern while performing auto repairs is cracking plastic while removing connectors, covers, etc. Instead of flexible plastic, I would prefer to see screws again.
