How To End Navigation On BMW?

How can the GPS cancel a pre-programmed guided route? I’ve made up my mind that I don’t want to go there any longer.

I’ve done it before, so I know it’s possible, but the godawful user interface makes it hard for me to locate.

My clumsy workaround is to silence the voice and attempt to recall to look at the display the next time you start the car when it prompts you to choose whether to continue or abort an existing route. But more often than not, I fail to reach it, and the GPS falls back on following the most recent preset route.

I looked through my manual, but there was no mention of this (unless I plainly missed it).

The “return” to the previous menu screen symbol is located in the upper left corner of the map itself. The “speaker mute” icon is located at the top of the menu at the left of the map display. Could there be a change in our firmware? My vehicle is a 2007.

I gave the voice command a try, and it seemed to be effective. I suppose the voice instructions are still useful in some ways.

On the left column of the navigation screen, there is an odd “DOT-ARROW” symbol. To cancel guidance, move your knob to the left, scroll to that symbol, and then click it.

When I click on that “DOT-ARROW” icon in my automobile, the navigation appears to be suspended and the icon has a “not” bar through it. Re-clicking on it will take you back to the previous location.

That is accurate. Functionally, “suspending” the guidance is the same as “cancelling” it. The last path is simply recalculated when you press the dot-arrow button once more.

Navigate to the navigation screen, scroll down to the address that your guidance is set to, click the knob, and choose “halt navigation” from the options that appear next to the address.

Although I’m not in my car, I’m quite confident this is accurate…

However, I do agree that it is not at all intuitive. I’ll give the voice command a shot the next time because I like the idea of it.

First is the destination it’s travelling to from the first box (the recent destinations).

Why is there no option to end the navigation? It seems appropriate to start navigating right after it. Additionally, you may enter an intersection on my 2003 540 nav. This choice appears to be gone. Weird.

There should be a Stop (or Finish, I forget) Navigation option if you click on the “Race Flag.” It could be scrolled down to the lower left quadrant to see it.

I wasn’t used to looking for the Intersection field there because it was a little farther down the list where State, City, etc. were located. (It initially confused me as well)

How can you deactivate a GPS in a BMW?

I frequently utilize navigation when I’m in a new place and don’t know the streets well.

But once I’m moving and on familiar roads, I want to turn off the navigation because I won’t need it anymore.

I can always halt the guidance to your current path in my previous nav-equipped cars by pressing a sizable STOP button in one of the main screens, but I can’t figure out how to do it in the BMW.

It’s simple. Push, not turn, the knob to the left while the map is still on the main display area, then select the second icon (which resembles an arrow with a dot next to it) from the top down. To stop or restart the guidance, click that once again. The voice may always be turned off by just clicking the symbol at the top.

I did go through and try each icon on the left, but perhaps I accidentally clicked the second one twice, causing it to stop and restart?

even simpler Say “Stop Guidance” while pressing the voice command button. Wait a moment for the voice icon to appear on the I-drive interface.
