I feel like a complete nerd. With my key fob, I can’t manage to close the trunk. opens properly. not interested in closing. Pressing again keeps trying to unlock or open. On numerous key fob trunk presses, I can see the lock mechanism trip open (it is already open, but it tries).
Do I have something missing? Why can’t the key fob open and close the trunk? In the iDrive menus, nothing was visible.

My key fob’s trunk button opens normally when I press and hold it. The trunk does not close if I press and hold when it is open; instead, I hear a mechanical unlock.
I’m able to shut the trunk.
- with the trunk housing both the lock and shut buttons (facing you when its open)
- I moved my foot beneath the back bumper to do this.
I can get the trunk open.
- by using the key fob’s trunk button
- by opening the driver’s side door and pulling and holding the “trunk control button”
Has anyone been successful in coding the power tailgate option’s ability to close the trunk with the keyfob? According to what I’ve read, programming the keyfob could be necessary, which I don’t believe is feasible with standard tools.

Even the standard behavior of pulling the trunk button to close the tailgate requires you to maintain holding it until the entire trunk is closed; otherwise, it just stops, producing a huge scene with lights and alarm noises alerting the neighbors that you’re closing your trunk.

There’s no need to switch to expert mode. It is a choice in their standard ECU menus.
If your automobile has an electric tailgate, you’ll have it. Mine doesn’t, and my Bimmercode program doesn’t contain the module.

BMW Comfort Access: What is it?
It’s a bit misleading to refer to BMW’s Comfort Access technology as keyless entry. With Comfort Access, your BMW key fob is still required to lock and unlock your car. It does not, however, depend on touching the key. It’s better to think of it as a clever opener or an automatic unlocker.
With Comfort Access, your BMW’s sensors can remotely identify your key fob at a distance of up to 5 feet. As soon as you grab the handle, your car will unlock if the fob is recognized. After getting out of your automobile, unlocking is as easy as touching the top of the handle. BMW Comfort Access eliminates the need to use the lock/unlock button on your key fob in both situations.
