Press and hold the unlock button on the key fob to open the glass roof from outside the car. As soon as the button is released, the panoramic sunroof and car windows open.
Press and hold the unlock button on the key fob to close the windows and sunroof simultaneously. If the car has Comfort Access, all you have to do is touch the door handle with the smart key.

When I use comfort access on the door handle to lock the car, I frequently forget to close the sunroof.
A setting referred to as “Convenient Closing Delay Sunroof” is mentioned in the BC handbook. Will the sunroof close immediately after I lock the car if I set that to “no delay” rather than requiring me to press the door handle or remote button for a longer period of time? Or perhaps it’s not so obvious?
However, there is no setting for the rear windows for the Conv Closing Front Windows feature. How would they be configured?
But there is still a little bit of a wait. For instance, the car locks instantly when you touch the handle to lock it, but you still need to keep the handle down for about a second to close the windows and sunroof. Although better than before, there is still some delay, so I could accidentally leave the sunroof open when I secure the car.
I want to see if my sunroof would close on its own when it starts to rain.
I’ve set the option on idrive, however when I test it by misting the rain sensor with water, nothing happens.
Does anyone know what causes it to happen and under what circumstances? Assume that the automobile must be turned off, parked, and of course, the roof must be open!
Are you certain the X3 has the option for a rain-sensing sunroof that closes? I may need to check as I was unaware of this.
The Wiper Stalk should be in the Auto position for the Rain Sensors to function, albeit, if you are certain it is available. Perhaps that is the cause.
In some nations (the UK and Europe), the automatic sunroof closing function is enabled by default; however, in other markets, the function needs to be programmed in order to function.
Only these things are compatible with it:
The sunroof will tilt if you simply spray water from a bottle or hose upon the rain sensor.
I wouldn’t trust it or use it if the “rain sensing sunroof” system performed as unpredictably or poorly as the “rain sensing wipers.” Isn’t it just common sense to close the sunroof before locking the doors and leaving the vehicle? If you must have some ventilation while it is parked and secured, you can also use the tilt option. The tilt works reasonably well to keep the inside dry unless it is pouring rain, but I’d still choose to close it completely.
Since I don’t enjoy having the blind all the way back, I actually never use the sunroof fully open.
I occasionally utilize the tilt feature, but I detest the fact that there is no alert when I shut off the engine that it is open. (I’m certain my previous GTI did it. Too afraid of poisonous Australian spiders getting inside the car overnight.
However, it would be excellent to test this auto-close feature to make sure it works. Although the option is selected in the menu, nothing happens when water is sprayed or poured on the sensor (perhaps in front of the rearview mirror).
On a BMW X1, how do you close the sunroof?
By holding the door handle, you can also close the windows and sunroof if you have comfort access. Regarding the closing of the glass while in the car mentioned above, a little pull on the level should suffice. The glass AND shade should close with one strong pull.
How is the sunroof closed?
To thoroughly troubleshoot the sunroof and figure out why it won’t close properly, you will need to disassemble it. Most frequently, the issue is a lack of power or track debris.
In order to diagnose a sunroof, you’ll need a multimeter and a screwdriver. Additionally, you need a cloth to wipe the track of the sunroof of any dirt or debris.
- Remove the glass from the sunroof to get to the lift arms. The sunroof’s guides are followed by the lift arms. You should check the guides to determine if they are stuck open. If they are, move the guides forward with a screwdriver to allow the lift arms to close. Replace the glass on the sunroof once the lift arms are operating properly.
- To see if the sunroof cable has gotten stuck in the lift arm or guides, check it. Remove the J plate on the sunroof to access the cable if it is obstructing the guides or lift arm. Reposition the cable so that it is completely clear of the lift arms and guides. Make sure the lift arms are moving properly by repositioning the J plate and testing the device.
- Make sure the sunroof motor is operating properly by checking it. The sunroof will remain open if the motor is not receiving power. Take a screwdriver, and place it at the nylon brushing in the center of the motor. To manually run the motor, turn and push the screwdriver. Replace the motor with a new one if you can manually open and close the sunroof.
- To check whether power is reaching the sunroof switch and wires, test them with a multimeter. The wiring is sound if there is no resistance. High resistance indicates a short and requires replacement of the wires.
- Remove any dirt and debris from the sunroof track that could cause it to jam.
Note: To prevent dirt from accumulating on the sunroof track, be sure to frequently clean it. The sunroof cables can eventually be damaged by too much debris on the track, and they are quite difficult to repair.
There are a few more things to think about. If your sunroof is electric, it comes with a fuse to safeguard it from a surge of voltage. The possibility exists that the fuse will eventually blow. The sunroof will cease working if a fuse blows, and it will stay that way until a new fuse is installed.
Finally, if the battery is unplugged or changed, sunroofs that are unique to particular car brands might need to be reset. The sunroof may usually be reset by you. Nevertheless, the procedure may vary based on the car model.
Try this if the electricity to your car’s sunroof is disconnected and then reconnected in order to reset it.
- the ignition switch on the car.
- If the sunroof is open, push the sunroof control button forward to close it, and then let go of the button.
- Releasing the button after pushing it forward again will cause the sunroof to tilt and move slightly. This might take ten seconds.
- After releasing the button, push it forward once more while holding it for three seconds. Sunroofs should tilt shut, then open, and finally close. Turn the button off. Reseting the sunroof is necessary.
Is the BMW sunroof fully operable?
To make it go all the way back, you must press the button. The sunroof doesn’t fully open with a single touch if it’s similar to an F30, which I assume it is. To make it go all the way back, you must press the button.
My sunroof won’t close; why?
Q: “What can I do to solve the fact that my electric sunroof won’t close? I need to resolve this right away because the rainy season is approaching!” Poncho-wearing in Victoria.
A sunroof is a great way to let more light and air into your car. Sunroofs come in a variety of designs, and the majority of them operate by pressing a button to automatically open and close. You have a serious issue on your hands if your sunroof unexpectedly becomes stuck open while it’s raining or freezing outside. Lack of power and obstructions in the tracks of the sunroof are the two main reasons why it becomes stuck.
To reach the lift arms, one option is to remove the glass from the sunroof. If the lift arm guides become caught in the open position, they may need to be pushed forward. To allow the lift arms to fully close, our glass repair partners move the guides forward with the aid of tools. They would replace the glass and conduct a test to see if this was the problem. If it is still stuck, they could inspect the sunroof cable as it might have become caught between the lift arm and guide rails. To access and reinstall the sunroof cable, you might need to remove the sunroof plate. The J plate is then replaced, and the lift arms are checked to ensure full movement.
If the sunroof is not physically blocked, you must make sure the sunroof motor is functioning properly. The sunroof will remain open if the motor is not receiving power. By rotating and pushing the motor mechanism from the inside in an effort to operate the motor manually, a glass technician can test the motor. The motor needs to be changed if the sunroof can be opened and closed manually.
They will also test the wiring leading to the motor to make sure there isn’t a short circuit preventing energy from reaching the motor in order to ensure that your motor is not replaced unnecessarily. They check the wires and switch for the sunroof using a multimeter. The wiring is sound if there is no resistance. However, if the resistance is significant, there is a short and new wires need to be installed.
Cleaning the sunroof tracks is the most important thing you can do to prevent the sunroof from becoming stuck open. Clean your sunroof tracks as soon as possible to prevent junk buildup. If too much debris accumulates, it may eventually damage the sunroof wires, which is very difficult (and expensive) to repair.
We send leaking sunroofs to a partner who is a glass specialist because we are not specialists in glass. They have the ability to locate leaks and stop them before they worsen.
