I have tried to follow the directions in the owner’s manual, but they are ineffective. The rotational display of all the potential station numbers won’t appear on the screen for some reason, I think.
Do you mean the tiny display that appears on the cluster or HUD when you turn the (MFL) scroll dial on the steering wheel when you say “rotary display”?
Make sure “PRESET” is chosen on the iDrive’s RADIO screen if you’re referring to the MFL scroll dial. In particular, if your radio presets are a sample of AM/FM/Satellite stations, iDrive won’t scroll through your radio presets if AM, FM, or Satellite is selected as the radio band. When using the MFL scroll dial, your presets should appear in the order that you have entered them, therefore make sure PRESETS is truly selected as your RADIO selection in iDrive.
The stations are saved to individual programmed buttons rather than your PRESETS, therefore if you utilized the 1–8 programmable iDrive buttons as separate PRESETS for some reason, utilizing the MFL scroll wheel won’t function. If you didn’t know, you can save ALL of your radio presets into ONE programmable iDrive button. If you hit the programmable button that has all of your presets saved to it, you can scroll through them all once more.
How do I remove a preset station on my BMW?
My 2017 X3, model xDrive35i, has the updated iDrive interface with the phone menu button on the left rather than the right side of the knob.
To delete a radio station on my prior BMW’s (earlier iDrive interface), I would just move the knob to the right, and “Delete Entry” would appear as a menu option. The radio station would be eliminated, and the list would collapse. I don’t want to replace the radio station with another one by accident.
You will need to overwrite the current option if you’re referring to the preset buttons. It is not necessary for it to be a radio station. I have given other people their own phone numbers and use my own to get directly to the trip computer page.
I apologize for forgetting to mention that I previously found the answer for myself in a previous post. Once the radio station has been chosen, simply press the new “Option” button next to the iDrive controller to see the option page, where you can choose to remove the radio station.
On a BMW x3, how can you alter the presets?
I’m not sure I follow. Basically, you just use your wheel to select the desired option in the iDrive menu, then hit and hold the preset button until it recognizes the saving.
I had no issues carrying it out. The HUD only displays three favorites, which is a problem. Is that the most it can show? The HUD can only cycle through and display the three presets while using the steering-wheel thumbwheel.
You’re speaking in radio preset fashion, then. Not only three settings, but all of your saved presets, should scroll through your HUD. I’ve saved 39 out of 40 presets, and I can scroll through them all by using the thumbwheel on the scrolling wheel. Only three can be displayed at once.

Wow, what wonderful news. I’ve asked around about this a few times. How can you choose more settings than the actual preset buttons allow?

You can configure one of the memory buttons to be a radio preset, but you don’t have to; you may scroll through and choose preset stations from the menu (“Media/Radio” -> “Presets”). Instead, shortcuts to other iDrive features might be created for the memory buttons.
really cool There’s no reason to waste those sturdy radio buttons. Thank you; I continue to learn something new every day.
The manual was really brought into the house today (! ), but I thought I’d ask a brief query first. I can only see numbers when I look up at the satellite radio stations. Is there a method to modify how the preset’s nomenclature is shown (or both) when you select your 40 or so presets? Do they pull the call letters or station names?
It ought should display the station’s name, but if you check it immediately away after starting your car, it can take a little for the names to appear. The preset station’s name cannot be changed, but it should appear in the HUD anyway.
