The Z4 GT3 completes BMW Motorsport’s lineup of racecars, joining the M3 GT2 and other models with a 480-horsepower V-8, a ton of carbon fiber, and a $400,000 price tag. The GT3 designation indicates that this Z4 meets with FIA class requirements, allowing it to participate in 24-hour races such as the International GT Open, ADAC GT Masters, and the FIA GT3 European Championship.
BMW used CATIA V5 design software to fit the 4.0-liter V-8 engine into the Z4 GT3 first, and then fitted the other components. The engine is taken from the M3 in size. The transmission is a sequential, six-speed device with a “Quick Shift” feature. The front axle was then given a redesign and a movable tubular stabilizer bar by the engineers. Similar to the normal Z4, the rear axle is a longitudinal link axle.
The majority of the body, including the hood, roof, fenders, front and rear spoilers, are made of carbon-fiber reinforced polymers, which reduces the weight of the Z4 to 2645 pounds.
