I own an X3 3.0si from 2008. I have no problems using my Bluetooth connection to connect to my iPhone 6s for calls and voice messages. But now when I’m trying to play music through Bluetooth from the same phone (such as Pandora, my music collection, etc.), it just won’t work. Although I can connect using an aux port, there is interference. The FM modulator that plugs into the cigarette lighter is my next concept. Any suggestions?
That’s wonderful; I never considered looking for an adaptor; I’ll give that a shot. I’ve chosen a different course of action. I moved the aux port inside the center console, added a second cigarette/power port there using wire taps, and plugged a twin USB adapter into that power port. I then had one USB cable specifically for phone #2 and used an adapter to run an apple cable to phone #1, which plugs into the aux and receives power. Two phones can charge at once, and one of them can play audio through the aux port.
But I already did it, and if I hadn’t already accomplished the impossible, I would have chosen the BT adaptor.
Any more recent links to the Bluetooth adaptor would be greatly appreciated.
My 2006 X3 wants to stream music, what should I do? There are a few alternatives after searching on Ebay… I’m curious about what the locals prefer. Unfortunately, there is no music available when using the BMW bluetooth module with the phone.
Quote:
The aux port shouldn’t cause interference. Attempt a higher-quality cable.
You can purchase a Bluetooth adaptor that fits into the radio’s rear if you want the Bluetooth streaming feature. Connect and play
For my 2004 e83, I purchased this FM Bluetooth Adapter, and it functions admirably with an AUX Cable. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/313229651592

How do I use my 2012 BMW x3 to stream music via Bluetooth?
My 2012 BMW X3 xdrive28i connects to my bluetooth phone absolutely well. I was recently able to connect my bluetooth phone and audio while driving a 2013 X5. I can’t seem to find the audio option on my X3, therefore it appears that I need to upgrade something, according to my research.
Before pairing your iPhone as a phone and an audio source, be sure that it is not connected to a USB cord. You cannot have both at once using iDrive.
Make sure your device has Bluetooth audio turned on. Select your phone by selecting CD/Multimedia > Bluetooth and then clicking the Option button. Check the audio box under Configure Phone in the Options window on the right. Additionally, you can look under Configure Bluetooth in Options to verify if Bluetooth audio is turned off for all devices. Like someone else said, connecting a USB cord will turn off the device’s Bluetooth audio, which then needs to be manually turned on again. For some reason, with our X3s, sound quality over Bluetooth is noticeably better than over USB.
Additionally, your BMW’s software plays a role. That feature was absent from our 2011 X3 35i. Bluetooth worked fine for phone calls but not for audio. We purchased a 2013 X3 and made certain that feature was in the vehicle. =) Since I believe it to be a software issue, you might be able to add that to your vehicle.
My girlfriend’s 2014 X3 was in for a little window rattle and a chrome bubble on the front grille.
She has an X5 from 2013. We were able to use Bluetooth to connect her phone for audio and “media,” which allowed us to operate Pandora without having to touch the device.
When I went back to my X3, the only connection option I had was for audio alone.
“BMW Assist with Enhanced Bluetooth and office capabilities” was a $650 required option for the 2012 model year, in addition to the normal bluetooth/USB connectivity. It is necessary to play Bluetooth audio and was included for free with the tech package.
My iPhone 4S’s BT audio could not be played by the default software that came with the car, but my Xperia Arc could. Things were fixed after the firmware was upgraded.
