I want to know if there’s a method to detect whether a car has the power folding mirrors because I’m looking for my first e38 (and first BMW, for that matter). I’ve learned how to identify many of the many options installed on a car just by looking at pictures of it thanks to all the study I’ve done on this topic and other websites, but I haven’t worked out how to tell whether the folding mirrors are installed or not.
I recently discovered the webpage www-dot-rubmw.ru/vincode/eng/ that displays the features the car was constructed with. Consequently, that will be really useful (thanks
Any suggestions on how it should be listed on the aforementioned VIN decoder website are welcome. A 2000 750 that has “Interior/Outside Mirror with Auto Dip” was what I discovered. That must be a tilt-down feature for when the vehicle is in reverse, right? The word “mirror” is only mentioned once in the car’s choices.
I assume those are the automatic (I think they’re called electrochromic) mirrors. The passenger mirror on every E38, or at least the facelift cars, is able to tilt down. The auto-dimming side mirrors that my dad has on his 740 are really wonderful. They destroyed my coloured ones by a mile.

If an E38 was manufactured in 2000 or after, looking for “outside mirror with auto dip” would be a sure clue that it features folding side mirrors. In the models from 2000 onward, this feature was part of the “convenience package.”
For the avoidance of doubt, BMW’s use of the term “auto dip” in relation to mirrors actually has nothing to do with the dipping of the mirrors. Since the early 1990s, when the interior rearview mirror genuinely “dipped” to reduce glare in the driver’s eyes, it has been a mistranslation for DECADES. Electrochromatic technology quickly replaced this “dipping” mirror, in which the mirror actually “DIMS” when light strikes a sensor.
BMW never altered the language from “dip” to “dim,” and many people conflate it with the passenger-side mirror’s “auto tilt” option when the transmission is in reverse. They are not the same, and the auto tilt function has also been available for many years. All four of my cars—my 1991 735iL, 1995 525iT, 1997 740iL, and 1999 540iT—had the automatic passenger mirror tilt. This feature may have also been included in my 1985 325e, but it has been so long since then that I am unsure.
Here is a description of the passenger side mirror’s auto tilt feature from the 1991 E32 owner’s manual, along with instructions for turning it on and off.

Do my BMW’s mirrors fold up?
You may electronically adjust the side mirrors on your BMW by pressing the button on the inside of the driver’s door. To choose which mirror you want to change, first move the toggle to the left or right. Using the matching arrows on the adjustment button, the angle of the mirror can then be adjusted up, down, left, or right. The handy auto-dip feature is activated by keeping the toggle in the right hand position. The passenger mirror will automatically tilt downward to provide a better view of the curb and any nearby objects while reverse gear is engaged. Disabling this function requires moving the switch to the left. Either the fold button on the driver’s door or the lock button on the key fob can be used to fold the wing mirrors in. The rearview mirror is simple to manually place in the ideal position.
All BMW 1 Series models have folding mirrors, right?
Heated mirrors are standard; folding mirrors are an additional that can be added. However, they do manually push in. Heated mirrors are standard; folding mirrors are an additional that can be added. However, they do manually push in.
Do the mirrors on the BMW x3 fold down?
The reason being that I’m unsure if an X3 will fit in and out of my garage without it being a tight fit. It’s a tad wider than my present vehicle.
Yes, press the button located just in front of the window switch. I frequently use it to enter my garage.
I don’t know if folding mirrors are standard in NA, but my UK 30d SE doesn’t have them; they were an expensive option.
By the way, for the imperial guys, the X3’s width with enlarged mirrors is 2098mm, or 82.59 inches.
Works perfectly for my X3 in Germany in this manner, however you must have specified the options “mirrors” and “keyless” at the dealer.
The need for the coding arises from NA’s prohibition on this feature. I believe it has to do with legal issues and dangers from traps. Same goes for remotely locking the boot and locking the sunroof and windows while maintaining lock on the key fob. These all function in the UK without further code.
In Toronto, GLK has this automatic mirror folding feature, but not the X3.
In the United States, it’s the exact reverse. Automatic folding mirrors are not even an option when purchasing a GLK. I detested it when MB made their cars less expensive for the US market.
I have the option for folding side mirrors, but I can’t figure out how to make them automatically fold in after you park your car and turn off the motor. I don’t want to hit the button repeatedly. Why do you do this?
Do the 2022 BMW X3’s mirrors fold down?
The driver’s side mirror dims when it detects headlights behind the X3, the passenger side mirror tilts down while the gear selector is in reverse, and the power-folding side mirrors are heated to prevent ice from obstructing your view. Loading and unloading are so much simpler with the included motorized rear tailgate.
Can a BMW’s power folding mirrors be folded manually?
Manual folding is available for the conventional mirrors (not power folding). On the outside of the mirror housing, firmly push back. It need 20 to 25 pounds.
Are there folding mirrors on the 320i?
I looked over the thread but came up nothing. Even after calling three dealers, I received inconsistent responses.
Do the power-folding side view mirrors on the 2014 320i xdrive with modern and lights package come standard?
1) The online configurator does not display a power mirror button.
2) According to three dealers I contacted, out of the automobiles on the lots they investigated, two had them and one didn’t. (All three claimed it was a contemporary line with a lights-only package.)
Can anyone with this car tell me if the modern line and lights package come with power folding side vision mirrors?
One car that I programmed had the exact same build date as mine (07/12), and both of our vehicles were classic lines with just the premium pack and lighting pack.
His car lacked folding mirrors, whereas mine did. I’m not sure if the fact that mine was AW and his was black makes a difference.
It’s unquestionably quite strange. Just make sure yours has folding mirrors; if it doesn’t, I won’t take receipt of it. Any changes on the situation will be shared with you people.
And whether you receive that is dependent on whether it is a standard feature for a certain model or series. If not, I believe it is a problem with the specific order.
to answer my own query. I took the car home, and the mirrors are power-folding. We appreciate all of the responses and assistance. sincerely appreciated
