Make sure it has optical ports if it doesn’t already have Bluetooth built in (look for the logo and additional fakra connections on the unit), as these would be required to connect to a MULF2 unit in the boot to supply the Bluetooth.

Guys, my 2006 vehicle lacks stock Bluetooth or Navigation. I saw the thread and YouTube video about installing the more recent professional head with built-in Bluetooth and USB connectivity (thanks Jose JN). I got one after seeing it on a German eBay.
The voice control is in German, but everything is connected and operating without any coding. When I contacted BMW regarding coding, they informed me that they couldn’t do it.
Therefore, anyone in the Central Scotland region who would be able to replace the Fraulein and modernize the vehicle. (Obviously involving payment)
I would also strongly advise this upgrade. A new USB cable must be run from under the armrest (or glovebox, depending on where your present socket is) to the head unit, and there is a new connection needed to connect the new microphone in the light panel to the head unit. I now have factory-installed Bluetooth and an audio USB port.
Try a different dealer? In Germany, I switched from being a radio professional to becoming a professional nav using an E60. In order to make it function, I first took the car to BMW to update the software*, then I refitted the sat nav over the course of an overnight, returning the next day to program the new device with the specifics of the vehicle. I’m speculating here, but I wonder why this wouldn’t work for the 3 series.
*Updating the vehicle to the most recent software was a prerequisite before the retrofit coding.
I also own a 2006 M Sport with a professional head unit that does not have Bluetooth capability, but it does have a phone sign on the steering wheel and head unit, as well as a wired microphone in the roof. Does anyone else have a microphone as well? I’m assuming that the head unit and steering wheel phone icons are universal independent of the devices’ coding for bluetooth.
I believe a retrofit system was installed at some point and taken out before I purchased the vehicle. Additionally, if it was an aftermarket kit, how do I identify the kit so that I may buy it and install it in my motor?

So yesterday I acquired a 2010 320D Sport Plus. When I bought it, I was told that it had Bluetooth phone capability; but, since the button for it was located on the steering wheel, I didn’t care to check to see if it actually functioned.
I have an AUX port in the arm rest, but there is no AUX option on the media select, only a USB option, even though I cannot find a USB port anywhere. When I go to the radio’s menu, the “TELE” option just has a double dash above it (like so “- -“), which I cannot select. Pressing any of the phone buttons on the radio or wheel does nothing.
After doing a lot of research and reading conflicting material that claimed my car didn’t have bluetooth to begin with, that I needed a recode, that I needed a new MULF unit, etc., I’m finding all this to be a little perplexing.
It would be extremely appreciated if someone on this site could put any light on the circumstance.
What choices do I have in terms of a setup to play Spotify from my phone and allow phonecalls with an aftermarket system if it needs recoding (I guess hundreds for BMW to do) or doesn’t even have bluetooth? without affecting the HUD display’s ability to display vehicle information?

How can I connect my BMW to Bluetooth music?
- Make sure your mobile device has Bluetooth turned on.
- Press COM > Mobile Devices > New Device on the iDrive 7 screen’s left side to add a new device.
- Choose your BMW from the Bluetooth menu on your smartphone.
How can I tell whether the Bluetooth in my BMW is upgraded?
To connect your phone and car:
- Launch your BMW as usual.

I don’t know if you’ve already ordered your car, but I did four weeks ago and faced the same dilemma. The professional unit sounds far better than the business unit, which I tested both of.
Even though the speakers are same, the head unit output is considerably better, and the radio has more selections, which is good. I heartily recommend the Professional unit for the little money.
Why won’t my iPhone pair with the Bluetooth in my BMW?
A software upgrade may also destroy Bluetooth features or devices, preventing them from performing as expected. The Bluetooth device could be removed in this situation and added back. By doing this, you can ensure that the next time your iPhone tries to pair with your automobile, a secure connection is made. Use the procedures below to remove your car from the list of Bluetooth devices on your iPhone X:
- Launch the Settings app.
- Click Bluetooth.
- Under My Devices, locate your vehicle.
- The information icon is a blue “i” next to it.
- Then select Forget This Device from the menu. Your iPhone X will be forced to forget about your automobile as a Bluetooth device if you do this.
- Go to Settings-> Bluetooth-> My Devices to see if the device has been successfully erased or forgotten. The device shouldn’t appear in this area anymore.
Restart your iPhone after you’ve lost track of the Bluetooth device, and then reconnect to Bluetooth by placing the car in pairing mode. Restart your iPhone X and follow these instructions to couple it with your car once more:
- Select Other Devices under Bluetooth in Settings.
- Tap to choose your car’s name from the list.
- The setup and pairing process can then be completed by adhering to the onscreen directions.
The issue is resolved if your iPhone X successfully connects to or couples with your car, and all Bluetooth car pairing features operate as intended. Resets will be your only option in that case.

To manually reset, hold down the power button for around 20 seconds. My 1 series would occasionally do that. Until the seatbelt alert lit up, I would let my seatbelt hang loose. After that, I could hear.
Do I have a combox on my BMW?

CIC (Pro Nav) – If your car has a CIC head unit installed, you’ll need a factory-installed combox.
The carpet in the boot must be taken out in order to determine whether your automobile has a combox installed.
- Open the boot and remove all of your stuff before continuing.
- The boot liner carpet readily pulls out, so remove it completely and lay it down.
- The flat supporting hard board in the boot should be removed, not just lifted up.
- The item circled on the left in the image above is the combox. A fuse box will be visible to the right if you are searching in the proper spot.
- You don’t have a combox if the area to the left of the fuse box is empty.
- If the combox in the circle is installed. Great! You can be coded.
