For its Motorrad Days event, BMW had 12 of its vocational students build a unique X7 pickup idea, and it actually looks really cool. BMW may be aiming to change that. The unique vehicle is based on an X7 xDrive40i, which has an inline-six turbocharged engine and all-wheel drive; the truck retains the air suspension from the SUV. From the back doors forward, it appears to be a typical X7. But behind the C-pillar, there is vertical glass, a substantial pillar with silver hand grips, and a pickup bed lined with teak wood instead of more side windows and a third-row seat. The tailgate, bumper, and taillights are entirely hand-made. The pickup’s bed measures 55 inches when the tailgate is closed and nearly 79 inches when it is open, according to BMW, making it 3.9 inches longer than a conventional X7.
A pre-existing X7 prototype that was slated for destruction was used as a sensible starting point for the X7 pickup, which was constructed in under 10 months and is completely legal for the road. What Is the Final Word?

What do you do when your daily job becomes boring? You come up with outlandish ideas for initiatives that might never materialize. Maybe they won’t? The BMW experts in Munich carried out that same action this summer. Unexpectedly, BMW released a unique concept car known as the BMW X7 pickup truck. The BMW Welt in Munich is currently displaying the exact identical project.
In July 2019, BMW unveiled a concept for a potential pickup truck employing the expansive X7 SUV platform. In collaboration with the Concept Vehicle Construction and Model Technology divisions at the BMW Munich plant, BMW Group vocational trainees assembled the one-of-a-kind conversion.
A concept was developed into a fully working, road-legal car in show car quality by twelve trainees from the occupational sectors body and vehicle mechanics (m/f/x), vehicle mechatronics (m/f/x), and technical model construction (m/f/x).
The loading area on the BMW X7 Pick-up is quite large. The loading space ranges in length from 140 cm (closed) to 200 cm. Despite having a 10 cm longer body, it was still able to further cut weight by 200 kg compared to the production model by employing CFRP for roof components, rear doors, and the rear lid.
This BMW X7 Pick-up is the ideal partner for various daily applications and more thanks to its handcrafted loading area with a stylish fine-polished wood finish, height-adjustable two-level air suspension, and countless high-class equipment elements. The makeover is finished with a BMW F 850 GS, a potent motorbike from the adventure market, on the loading area.
A special combination of teakwood with a honey tint and Tanzanite Blue metallic is also available.
It is uncertain whether BMW will ever produce a pickup truck. For now, there is no such project in works, but considering that even Tesla is contemplating one, we don’t know what the future might hold for us.
Bimmer Pickup
BMW has already presented us with some wild pickup truck concepts, but they were all just design research prototypes. The BMW X7 truck project, in contrast, was inspired by a real automobile and is completely functional to demonstrate automotive quality. It has an all-wheel hybrid drive system with 340 horsepower and more than 31 mpg.
BMW regretfully announced that the X7 pickup will never go into production. Although it would be entertaining to see one of these on the road, we don’t believe BMW has any immediate ambitions to enter the truck industry.
Platform for BMW pickup trucks
The platform has consistently plagued our minds as we’ve been receiving various information over the past three years about the 2021 BMW Pickup Truck. Given that this automaker doesn’t produce any vehicles that are body-on-frame (except from the i8, but that’s a whole other story), a collaboration with some other automakers would be the logical approach. Numerous people recommended partnering with Toyota to produce the new 2021 BMW Truck on the Hilux or Tacoma platform. However, given the failure of the Mercedes X-Class, which is actually based on the Nissan Navara, we are rather certain that BWM won’t undertake such a thing.
The 2021 BMW Pickup Truck will take a totally different course. We’ll see a unibody platform design, which has a number of advantages, particularly for a vehicle like a premium pickup where performance and comfort are more important than functionality and all-around utility. It is evident from a look at the Honda Ridgeline that such a design offers a more comfortable and enjoyable driving experience. On the other hand, don’t anticipate this pickup truck to have a high level of towing or cargo capabilities.
