When did BMW introduce Apple CarPlay?

In 2017, BMW released Apple CarPlay as an add-on that was only available with vehicles that had built-in navigation.

Previously an option, CarPlay is now a requirement for all BMW models with navigation systems.

You must determine whether CarPlay has been enabled on a used BMW manufactured before 2020.

It’s crucial to remember that the automobile needs a wifi antenna and head unit that are compatible. If your vehicle has the necessary configuration in place, your nearby BMW dealership will be able to let you know.

Although it’s unlikely that the technology will be put in BMWs manufactured between 2014 and 2016, a small number may do so given that retrofitting is technically doable.

Almost all BMW automobiles in the US now come with the $300 CarPlay option.

BMW has been waiting a long time for CarPlay, but it appears that almost all models now offer the technology as a $300 option.

The fact that it first emerged for the X5 and X6 M in May and then reappeared for the M3 and M4 in June suggests that BMW may have been saving it for higher-end vehicles. But as of right now, the majority of the range offers “Apple CarPlay Compatibility” as an entertainment choice.

Oddly, the company’s two electric vehicles, the i3 and i8, appear to be the exception.

The CarPlay availability page that Apple introduced back in January has not yet been updated. On the BMW website, after selecting your vehicle and selecting the Choices page, look under “Entertainment options” to view your personal favorite model.

At one point, there were rumors that Apple would decide to team up with BMW and Daimler to build an Apple Car based on the all-electric i3, but those negotiations are said to have fallen through.

After becoming available for many 2017 vehicles, including all Fords as of last month, CarPlay may now be regarded quite widespread. Sony is the newest firm to offer one of the many aftermarket CarPlay units that are also readily accessible.

Hey guys, This weekend, I recently purchased a 2016 CPO 328, and I want apple carplay. Exists a retrofit method? How much does it cost? also, is it worthwhile?

You have made a post in the E90 forum. You’re interested in the F30 forum, since that’s the generation your car comes from. People there will be aware of this.

However, after using CarPlay on my 2017, I believe it is not worthwhile. It wasn’t available as an option until the release of iDrive 5.0, so I doubt you’d be able to retrofit it on a 2016.

I’m very convinced that every 2016 F30 would have come equipped with iDrive 4, making installing CarPlay virtually impossible. I’m 99% certain, but I could be wrong.

Given the anticipation surrounding it, CarPlay disappointed me. It doesn’t even span the entire screen, and the integration is generally lacking. I really wanted to like it, but I quickly turned it off and stuck with the integrated system.

+1…

My GTI has vehicle play, but I never use it. I prefer using the VW Bluetooth for music and calls over the Car Play navigation system. The only option left is voice messaging, which I personally don’t use.

When was Apple CarPlay introduced?

Your conclusion is that BMW Apple CarPlay might be beneficial for you. First of all, keep in mind that it was published in 2014. If your car is older than that, you can be sure it didn’t come with Apple CarPlay out of the box, and there probably won’t be any way to install it without installing more recent, more sophisticated technology.

Even with an outdated iDrive system like the BMW CIC, you can add Apple CarPlay to an older car with a third-party retrofit because CarPlay MMI Prime from BimmerTech is compatible with automobiles built long before CarPlay was even introduced.

BMWs are the oldest vehicles that will have the BMW CarPlay configuration operational because it was initially made available as an option from the dealer in 2016.

My God! That seems very frustrating. But it’s not that unusual for something like this to happen. There could be a number of reasons why your BMW does not support Apple CarPlay. Many drivers have reported similar problems following software updates from BMW.

Fortunately, you can try a few different things. This is what you ought to do:

  • Unpair and re-pair your phone after making sure that Siri, Bluetooth, and WiFi are all turned on. You should be able to connect to Apple CarPlay, we hope. If so, connect right now. Then you ought to be prepared.
  • Push the volume knob in and hold it if that doesn’t work. That should restart the computer and fix any software issues. After that, connecting to CarPlay should be simple.
  • Check your phone for software updates and install them if you’re still having trouble connecting.
  • By visiting to Settings > Screen Time > content & privacy restrictions, make sure CarPlay isn’t set to aRestricteda. Press Allowed Apps. If you see that CarPlay is deactivated, enable it. Your CarPlay should then function properly.
  • For a few hours, leave your automobile in a location where you know WiFi and Bluetooth signals will be strong. Some BMWs experience problems with CarPlay simply because they are parked in garages with inadequate signal.

After doing all of that, if CarPlay is still not functioning, it may be time to bring your BMW in for a software update. If everything else fails, a system update ought to restore order.
