All of the vehicle’s navigation, audio, and communication systems are managed by MMI. These characteristics do change based on the precise Audi you choose.
The MMI Radio Plus, which is included with the base Audi A1 Technik, is displayed below. It has a voice control feature, an 8.8-inch touchscreen display, a 10-inch digital instrument display, Bluetooth, DAB radio, and a USB connector for charging and attaching your phone.
There are a few transitional classes, but the MMI Navigation Plus system is now standard on many Audi vehicles. Additionally, it is frequently available for an additional cost as part of Audi’s optional Technology Pack. Depending on the model, this normally costs somewhere between 1500 and 1700. The additional cost is very worthwhile.
MMI Navigation Plus features a touchscreen display of at least 10 inches, a route assistant that learns your most frequent routes, monitors traffic conditions on them, and reroutes around jams, a 10- or 12-inch digital driver’s dials (Audi calls it the “Virtual Cockpit”) that can be configured to show whatever information the driver wants, Android Auto, and a 3D sat-nav with zoomable maps.
Audi Connect connects MMI to the internet after that. The Safety & Service package, which provides support for accidents and mechanical issues and may be used to schedule maintenance, comes standard on every Audi model. You may remotely lock and unlock the car, view vehicle status reports, track it down, and receive theft alert notifications when used in conjunction with the myAudi app on your phone.
The navigation and entertainment system may display Google Earth imagery, flight schedules, fuel prices, and parking fees. You can also use it to dictate messages and access some internet audio streaming services. There are also numerous third-party apps for practical services. In essence, it’s Audi’s in-house take on Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
It’s important to note that Audi Connect services require a subscription and that the first 36 months are provided free of charge.
A simple voice-control capability that enables you make phone calls and adjust the radio station is included in Audi’s MMI system. However, Mercedes’ “Hey Mercedes” voice-recognition technology and BMW’s Personal Assistant (above) are significantly superior. Both allow you to change a greater variety of vehicle settings and respond to natural speech rather than the somewhat robotic-sounding commands required by Audi’s system. For instance, saying “I’m hot” will cause the BMW and Mercedes systems to reduce the climate control’s temperature.

Is Google Maps still used by Audi?
I just noticed that my R8 and RS3’s navigation systems weren’t displaying Google Earth imagery. When I double-checked my myconnect account, which still had another year left, I discovered the following:
In 2012, Google and Audi teamed up to deliver an industry first in our navigation systems: Google Earth imagery. Google’s delivery system for Google Earth imagery is a work in progress that is continually being updated. Google Earth will no longer work with some 2018 and earlier Audi model year devices as of December 31st, 2020.
After 12/31/20, affected vehicles won’t be able to get Google Earth images on the navigation screen as a result of this change. Rest assured that as long as there is an appropriate service network to support them, all other Audi connect services will continue to be accessible. A software upgrade that will enable the ongoing usage of satellite imagery is available for a limited number of 2017 and 2018 models. Please refer to the FAQ that is included below to determine whether your vehicle qualifies for this software upgrade.
Anyone who has noticed this? Anyone visited Audi for an MMI upgrade since some cars qualify. My r8 is an early 2017 model, therefore it can’t receive CarPlay, so I’m worried that it won’t be able to obtain the patch. I’m terribly disappointed because I loved using Google Earth for navigation.
Is there a navigation system in an Audi?
Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones and music devices can wirelessly connect to Audi models with MMI Navigation Plus, providing you with hands-free access to many of its features.
What is the navigation system in an Audi?
Audi developed the in-car entertainment and navigation system known as Audi Navigation Plus. It is unable to change the settings for the engine, suspension, or climate, unlike the Audi Multi Media Interface. Instead of basic sound systems, Audi Navigation Plus devices were mostly offered as extra equipment.
Which MMI system is used by myAudi?
Checking the version information displayed by your unit is a fairly easy way to find out exactly which MMI head unit or what version of MMI software is operating on your Audi. Follow these steps to achieve this:
- First, tap the radio’s Setup or Menu button.
- Next, navigate to Settings and click Version details.
A serial code is listed under Media/software version as you access version information. Depending on the prefix of your software version, your Audi will have one of the available MMI models installed. Additionally, the serial code listed under the Navigation database version lets you know which version of the Map is now active on your computer.
The list of MMI models below includes each model along with the supported software version prefix. Your MMI model can be obtained by simply matching the prefix with the version displayed on your screen.
- SW: XX-XX XX.X.X XXXX MMI 2G
- BNav XX XXXXX, MMI 3G Low/Basic
- Highest MMI 3G: HNav XX XXXXX

Now that we’ve talked about and learned how to recognize each of the various Audi MMI head units. It’s time to discuss potential improvements for every MMI head unit.
How effective is Audi navigation?
The usage of Google Earth for navigation, which provides considerably more detail, is one of the nicer touches. The GPS route was quick and simple to follow. Additionally, the home screen is quite clear and has outstanding color contrast. The top end of the audio spectrum can be harsh, but overall it is really good.
Is Waze compatible with myAudi?
Hello everyone, as of making the OBDeleven adjustments, see the previous article. Now that CarPlay is available, I can use Waze on my screen and my virtual cockpit can display Audi GoogleMap satnav.
Is the Audi nav system free?
At Roadshow, we don’t like having to continuously pay a subscription price for a car feature. We have already discussed it when BMS tried this technique, and surprise! We still don’t like the idea.
Audi said on Thursday that it would offer its MMI Navigation Plus service and its full-speed Wi-Fi option as either a yearly license or a monthly subscription cost for select 2021 Q5, Q5 Sportback, A4 and A5 cars. Clearly, Audi didn’t read our view on the whole notion. This action is a component of the brand-new program Function On Demand.
Audi’s (actually really amazing) satellite-view navigation costs a not insignificant $84.99 per month. Depending on your needs or preferences, you can buy a month here or a month there, but a full year of the service will cost you a staggering $849.99.
You should probably get the MMI Navigation Plus system when you purchase the vehicle because it is a $1,500 option on Premium Plus models and a standard feature on Prestige vehicles. Though not, hunt for a used car that already has it, or just use your phone for navigation, even if it looks less stylish, like we would.
Audi also offers a retroactive activation of the Light Function Package for a single $249.00 price for the duration of the vehicle, allowing E-Tron and E-Tron Sportback buyers to partake in the fun to a certain extent. Drivers who purchase this package will receive dynamic turning, maneuvering, and cornering lights.
In next months, Audi will introduce further Function On Demand subscription capabilities.
I want to purchase Audi navigation.
For the princely amount of $85 per month or $850 per year, Audi has revealed that you can now add navigation to certain of its existing infotainment systems that weren’t ordered with it from the factory. In the myAudi mobile app, the new subscription service can be purchased through the myAudi Marketplace.
Select 2021 variants of the Audi Q5, Q5 Sportback, A4, A5 Premium, and Premium Plus, as well as the E-Tron and E-Tron Sportback, are eligible for the subscription service. To put the cost in perspective, the whole experience costs $85 a month, while Wi-Fi connectivity and basic navigation can be added for $49 and $36 respectively.
Subscribers will get access to a wide range of features, such as the well-liked real-world satellite view, handwriting recognition, and natural speech recognition. These qualified vehicles’ newly expanded 10.1-inch MMI touch screens provide even better sight when using navigation. A 4G LTE Wi-Fi connection can also be shared by the system with up to eight compatible devices.
Audi’s smartphone interfaceis it common?
All Audi vehicles come with Bluetooth as standard, allowing for smartphone connectivity. In many cases, Apple CarPlay or Android Auto are also available via a cable connection.
Depending on your smartphone, Bluetooth can be used for calling, data-dependent functions in the car, and media streaming. Android users are better served in this regard because the car can access your stored music for playback, as opposed to iPhone users who must enter “iPod” mode via a wire connection. However, on some car models, you’ll need the connectivity package to enable wider functions.
Can the Audi MMI system be upgraded?
Put the SD card in slot 1 and access the Engineering Menu in your MMI by selecting the “Update” option. Select SD1 as the source, then choose the firmware and “Standard” on the following page. Depending on the file size, the MMI update should take between 30 and 60 minutes to complete.
What is the monthly cost of Audi Connect?
Here is everything you need to know about Audi’s linked automobile and infotainment systems, such as Audi Connect and the business’s “MMI” system, without further ado.
Even though it could be tempting to connect a smartphone and only use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, we’ll put them aside for the time being and concentrate on Audi’s own system, named Audi Connect.
Audi Connect, which has three primary components dubbed Connect Care, Connect Prime, and Connect Plus, is primarily a system for gaining access to the navigation system of the vehicle as well as your phone’s contacts and calendar events.
The first is intended for use in an emergency, enabling you to contact roadside help or make an SOS call from within your car in the event of an accident. This SOS system is accessible for free throughout the duration of the car, in contrast to some SOS systems from other manufacturers.
Through the free myAudi app for iPhone and Android, Connect Care also enables remote locking and unlocking of the vehicle. If you can’t remember where you parked your car, you can use the app’s car-finder tool to find it, and Care also aids law enforcement in finding stolen cars.
Additional Connect Care services are available to Audi E-Tron owners, including route planning that takes charge stops into account, phone-based interior temperature management, and control over the battery charging process.
All new Audis come with a free six-month trial of Connect Prime or Connect Plus, after which you can choose to cease using them or pay a subscription fee.
These are not exactly inexpensive. Priced at $199 for six months or $499 for 18 months, Connect Prime is available. If you use the data connection on your smartphone, Connect Plus is a more affordable $10 per month; if you use the car’s own unlimited data service, it is $25 per month.
A voice assistant that uses natural language to control things like the cabin temperature is one of the top features, and Amazon Alexa integration allows you to ask questions, play music, and manage your smart home devices. Other standout features include Google Earth mapping imagery in the car’s navigation system.
The last option is Connect Plus, which establishes a Wi-Fi network inside your vehicle to which you may connect electronics like smartphones and tablets. Internet radio streaming and access to Amazon Music are also included with Connect Plus.
The car’s own SIM card, which is either embedded and out of sight or found in a slot in the glove box, is used to receive data for the complete Connect system.
MMI, which stands for man and machine interface, is the name of Audi’s infotainment system’s user interface. This is distributed among three digital displays: an instrument panel behind the steering wheel, a screen for maps and entertainment in the center of the dashboard, and a screen below it for climate control, heated seats, and other important functions. Above is a photo of the latter.
You can write with your finger on this lower screen to enter information, such as a destination for the navigation system. In other variants, this display is swapped out for a more conventional scroll wheel that may be used to move about the interface by rotating, pressing, tapping, and swiping. Below is a picture of this.
Traditional speedometers and rev counters, along with gasoline and temperature indicators on either side, can be seen on the instrument panel behind the steering wheel. Alternately, these might be shrunk to make room for a huge map display that takes up the most of the screen.
All Audi vehicles come standard with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay starting with the 2020 model year. Some versions come with wireless CarPlay as well, but like with most manufacturers, the selection is currently relatively constrained.
As we already explained, you may remotely lock and unlock the vehicle using the free myAudi app for iOS and Android. Additionally, make sure the lights are off and that the windows, hood, tailgate, and sunroof are all closed. The app displays the amount of fuel or battery charge left, the predicted range, the current mileage of your car, and any cautions that are now being displayed by its computer (such as low oil or incorrect tire pressure).
The app helps you find the closest dealer and provides information on how many miles or days it will be before your next service and oil change. Alerts can be set up to notify you if your car exceeds a specific speed or exits a geofenced region (letting you know if your kids have driven off-road).
Finally, valet mode can be activated via the app to limit the performance and functionality of the car when it is being driven by someone else, such as the hotel valet.
An Apple Watch app is also available to provide information about your car’s location, mileage, whether any windows are open, and remaining range.
