How does the Audi Park Assist function?
Some Audi cars come equipped with an automatic parking system called Audi Park Assist. To find parking spaces and identify impediments, the system uses ultrasonic sensors (and the backup camera on some versions). Once a parking space has been identified, the system can determine the correct steering-wheel inputs required to enter the area. The driver simply needs to handle the brake and throttle; the automobile will maneuver itself. Both transverse parking in a parking lot and parallel parking on the street are compatible with the system. The device can warn the driver of nearby objects even when the car is not automatically parked. The Park Assist system can also show you the best exit route when it’s time to depart the parking space.
What serves as a Park Assist?
With guiding system technology that rivals ultrasonic and other camera-based solutions with superior, cutting-edge technology, Park Assist is an automated parking aid that helps drivers park with greater precision. The consumer is at the center of the parking guidance system (PGS) in many ways. Along with directing cars to available places, it improves every aspect of the parking process with automated features.
What is the parking aid plus feature of Audi Park Assist?
One of the standout features of the maneuver assist, in addition to the (remote) park assist plus, which the driver engages by pressing a button, “park assistance program. It can easily navigate the Audi e-tron GT into and out of a parallel or bay parking space after seeing appropriate parking places. The maneuver is the driver’s responsibility. They can either stay in the vehicle or exit it first. In this instance, the myAudi app is used to initiate and manage the parking maneuver. The e-tron GT will enter the space as long as the correct button is held down, making numerous maneuvers if necessary. When it has arrived at its destination, it locks the doors, turns off the drive, and engages the parking lock. The “Audi pre sense rear, side assist, exit warning, junction assist, and rear cross-traffic assist are among the safety systems included in the city assist package.
The central driver assistance controller (zFAS), which is used by all systems, continuously computes an accurate picture of the driving environment using data from the sensors. In this manner, they are able to react to things precisely and quickly, for example, by starting to brake. The zFAS can receive data for this from up to five radar sensors, five visual cameras, the thermal imaging camera for the night vision aid, and twelve ultrasonic sensors, depending on the choices chosen.
How valuable is Parking Assist?
Does it merit it? It is, indeed. This kind of setup works well and shouldn’t be too expensive. This technology is currently found in many consumer-oriented cars, proving that the expenses are reasonable and should be factored into the cost of the feature.

Do you use the brakes on Park Assist?
When a driver is parallel parking, the most prevalent automatic parking assistance systems take over the steering. As seen in this image of Volvo Park Pilot technology, many of these will also guide into a perpendicular parking place at a 90-degree angle from the direction the car is moving.
You keep the wheel when using the technology at this degree of parking assistance. It is your responsibility to move the automobile and change the gearbox gears using the accelerator and braking pedals.
When in use, this basic automatic parking assistance technology locates a space for your automobile that is the right size. The motorist starts hands-free steering once it deems that a parking space is the right size. While you control the pedals and transmission, the vehicle will then steer into the available space.
Does Park Assist help you park the car?
When you’re in a parking lot or a street you wish to stop in, click the park assist button on your car to turn on the system. Many automobiles have parking sensors that can scan the area as you move slowly, alerting when they see a gap that the car can fit into or showing a picture of the space on one of their information panels. To notify the automobile which side you wish to park on, you will typically need to signal.
The car will take control when you’ve chosen a spot and confirmed that you wish to park there, letting you know when to take action (by, for example, accelerating or braking) while it executes the maneuver. By applying the brake, you can stop at any time and take over control of the steering.
How come my Park Assist stops working?
On select 20192021 Silverado and Sierra pickups, the false Park Assist alerts (Fig. 20) may appear even when there is nothing in front of or behind the car. The alert could cause the system to shut down, and the Driver Information Center could show a Park Assist Off message (DIC). Additionally disabled will be the indicator in the Park Assist switch.
The Park Assist sensor and/or bezel (Fig. 21) can ground out or pick up typical vehicle vibrations that could be mistaken for an object depending on how the device is mounted or painted. These typical vehicle vibrations would not be detected by the sensor if it was installed and insulated from the car appropriately. No DTCs will be set because the sensor is operating normally.
If this situation is present, it is feasible to check a number of different things to identify which sensor might require repair.
Remove the history
View the disable history in GDS2 by going to Module Diagnostic/Park Assist Module/Data Display/Parking Assist Disable History 1-4 and 5-7 Data. The disable history may indicate a problem with a Park Assist sensor(s) grounding out, becoming squeezed, or picking up common vibrations if it says “Trailer or Other Object Attached.” Don’t ignore things that should be obvious, such a trailer hitch or any other accessories that are fastened to the car.
TIP: If the disable history indicates that the system was manually disabled, the client may have done so. A client may attempt cycling the Park Assist manual disable switch in an effort to get the Park Assist system to work.
Detector Position
Ask the customer if a false warning has ever been noticed on the Park Assist display in the DIC. Utilize this knowledge to select the sensor or sensors that should be examined. Examine the left-front Park Assist sensors and bezels, for instance, if the Park Assist display is incorrectly reporting an item in front of the car on the left.
GDS2 Specifiions
Use GDS2 to check Module Diagnostic/Park Assist Module/Data Display/Parking Assist System Data and keep an eye on the “Attached Object Detected Front” and “Attached Object Detected Rear” parameters on vehicles with front and rear park assist when the Park Assist Off message is displayed. It can be determined if the problem is with the front or rear sensor(s)/bezel if one of the parameters is “active while the Park Assist Off message is displayed” (s).
TIP: If your car has front and rear Park Assist sensors, they both turn on when you put it in reverse. Additionally, when the car moves forward, the system checks to see if anything is fastened to the front or back of it.
Check the Park Assist sensor and bezel for any damage after deciding which sensor (or sensors) to examine further. Look for any paint or stone chips, dents, or silicone ring problems, including appropriate ring installation. (Fig. 22) Whenever necessary, fix. The bumper may need to be taken off for these examinations.
Check to see if the Park Assist sensor bezel is mounted correctly in the bumper hole. Incorrect mounting of the bezel can result in a sensor grounding out or being pinched. Verify that the four locking tabs holding the bezel to the bumper are all completely inserted. (Fig. 23) Find out what is keeping a tab from engaging if it is partially engaged, such as too much paint or plastic flashing. If the sensor or bezel are not broken, do not replace them.
Verify that the internal decoupling ring isolates the sensor tip from the sensor body if the Park Assist sensors have been painted. (Fig. 24) The sensor may ground out if paint or clear coat has leaked down the side of the sensor’s tip and into the space between the body and sensor tip.
