Why won’t myAudi key function?
Audi models from 2000 to 2014, including the Q5, R8, A6, A8, Q7, A4, A3, TT, Allroad, A5 and A7, are covered by this TSB.
Although central locking by remote control no longer functions either continuously or intermittently, the locks can still be opened by hand. Because the battery has been disconnected or the remote control’s battery has been changed, the remote control key and vehicle may not be in sync. The remote control key may have been momentarily turned off if other senders (such as mobile phones, TV stations, wireless headphones, etc.) use the same frequency band. This is because it is impossible to clearly indicate the remote control key. This is required to stop other unconnected senders from accidentally unlocking the car.
To synchronize each remote control key with the car, do the following:
- Use the key to mechanically start the car.
- Depress the remote control key’s unlock button.
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position after inserting the key.
- Reset the key to OFF and take it out of the lock.
- Press the remote control key’s locking or unlocking button.
- 2002 model year or later: Use the VAS scan tool to program the remote control key(s) to the Central Comfort System control module (address word 46) if the synchronization procedure did not work. Push button start: what is it?
With a push of your push button start without holding it or putting your foot on the brake, you can activate particular functions just like you would with a standard key ignition. For information on how many pushes activate various functions of the car, consult your owner’s manual.
Push button starting can be conceptualized in this way. It works similarly to turning an ignition key one position at a time with each button press. One touch activates the radio when the foot is off the brake. The dash and other accessories are turned on with a second touch. Once more pushed, everything is turned off.
How is a car key turned in?
Once you hear the starter motor spinning, turn the key clockwise. When this occurs, it will be obvious because the engine will begin to make noise and the vehicle will begin to tremble. The sound the engine is generating will often sharpen and smooth out after a short period of time. Release your grip on the key at this point to stop the starter motor. Repeat the procedure in case the engine stalls. If not, your efforts were successful.
NOTE: In some more recent vehicles, all you need to do is click a button after inserting the key into the ignition. If so, proceed as directed.
Additionally, the vehicle may have a dead battery or be out of gas if it won’t start or the starter motor doesn’t move at all. If none of these situations apply, a mechanic could be needed for your vehicle.
How does an Audi A3 start up?
To turn on the ignition and start the engine, insert the key into the ignition lock.
Important: To lock the steering, the selector lever (automatic gearbox*) needs to be in position P.
Turn the steering wheel until the steering lock engages while the ignition key is off to lock the steering.
Turn the ignition key in the direction of the arrow while simultaneously twisting the steering wheel to release the steering lock.
You can use the automatic start feature on your Audi A3. The engine starts automatically as soon as you briefly turn the ignition key to position -2.

For a moment, turn the ignition key to position -2-. Automatically, the ignition key returns to position -1-. Don’t step on the gas pedal.
While you start the engine, electrical components with a high power consumption are momentarily turned off.
On chilly days, starting diesel engines can take a few extra seconds. Till the engine starts, kindly keep your foot on the clutch pedal (for manual gearboxes) or brake pedal (for automatic gearboxes). As the glow plugs warm up, the indication lamp turns on.
The coolant temperature and the ambient temperature both affect how long the preheating process takes. The glow plug indicator lamp will illuminate briefly when the engine is heated or when the outside temperature is over +8C. This indicates that the engine can be fired up right away.
Turn the ignition key to position -0 to stop the starter if the engine won’t start right away, then try again in about 30 seconds.
