Hello, I was able to figure out how to take the sunshade and the roof liner off. The sunshade was only partially salvageable, so I’m now attempting to figure out how to re-glue the fabric to the metal pieces. Simply said, I’m still unsure of whether it will be worthwhile or even feasible to complete.
It took me about two hours to remove the headliner, but I basically went into it blind. I can give guidance over the phone if someone needs it, after which they can publish it for the rest.
In the beginning, I had a good chuckle at the dealer. As a newbie, I foolishly believed that the third-party warranty that came with the car would cover the sunshade. I deliver it to the dealer, who bills me $170 for an inspection before informing me that they need $1500 in labor and $400 in parts. $1900. Yes, that makes sense.
So I ordered the item, which I believe cost $310, and I got the sunshade and the black metal casing where it rolls into. However, you shouldn’t ever have to replace the metal case; just order the sunshade.
There is no need to remove the headliner. It just needs to be loosened at the back. The headliner is held into the back area of the car by a button that can be removed by removing the plastic center piece that covers it in the trunk. To remove the headliner, just push the tabs on each side of the button with a flathead screwdriver and pull down. The next step is to unlatch the two side pillars that are located at the very back of the vehicle. After doing this, pull the pillar back and it will pop out.
The sunshade metal housing should now be loose enough for you to discover the two T20 screws holding it in and remove them. The next step is to take down the head liner.
Step into the driver’s seat, retract the sunroof glass, and then turn the knob a bit farther to push the glass into service mode before removing the sunshade cloth. On the front corners of the rear glass panel, there are two T20s that need to be removed. Take those away. Keep in mind that there are two spacer washers between the chassis and the glass; don’t let them go missing right away. Now locate the rubber lining that is located close to the rear glass panel by going inside the car, into the back seat, and grabbing a flathead. There are two notches for two more T20s on either side of the glass behind the rubber gasket, which may be removed by running the flathead through the edges of the panel and the rubber gasket. Cool, now remove the rear glass and push the front glass back into its normal place. Lay the back glass down on a soft surface, such as a towel. Moving the sunshade all the way back will reveal two T20 screws at the back of the area where the glass panel once was. Remove those screws, and then immediately adjacent to them are a set of tabs. By prying these outward and up with a flathead screwdriver or pick, you will be able to remove the metal bar that pulls and pushes the sunshade fabric. Simply slide the bar off of the fabric after releasing the two grey tabs on either side.
I completed this task in 2 hours, not even close to 15, so I believe that is why it is known as the Stealership.
