Performance: I can’t emphasize enough how much joy it is to drive this car. Most cars, even many exotics, can’t compete with it. Car & Driver rates it at 3.2 0-60 whereas Audi rates it at 3.8. It is compulsive.
Reliability: Too soon to comment, but mine is a CPO, and I bought extra insurance just to be safe. There haven’t been any problems yet, but when they occur, they won’t be inexpensive.

The S8 is far more enjoyable for me to drive, even if the newer A8L is bigger and more opulent. It is dependable, enjoyable, and quick. My automobiles used to bore me after six months. This one not! Beautifully designed and constructed automobile. Alcantra/Recaro interior for the S8. I’ve sat in some of the best seats of my life. Amazing leather gives the inside a good, sturdy feel throughout. The engine feels, sounds, and looks fantastic. For a car this size, the suspension, handling, and brakes are all incredibly accurate and snappy. Fuel efficiency is average, but the gearing is quite short compared to the A8 and the car is difficult to keep off the gas. The vehicle does require regular maintenance. There is a coil pack and some disconnected vacuum lines. Likewise, there is an unsolved issue with the catalytic conversion system. Overall, Audi did a terrific job with its engineering.
This German vehicle is for enthusiastic drivers. This is the vehicle I would choose if I had to go across the country out of all those I have ever had. It’s large, quick, powerful, and nimble all at once, like an NFL linebacker. When I first bought it, it had 92000 miles. I only updated the tires, idler pulley, serpentine belt, and fuel pump; it currently has 140000 miles. I fill it with 0W40 synthetic oil. My wife, who is currently operating it, has fallen in love. She claims that once you start comparing all cars to it unfairly, it ruins you. Between 2001 and 2003, we imported just 531. It is a German driving machine with muscle. DOT set the limit at 155 mph. (I’m sorry)
This had 49,000 miles when I bought it a few months ago. What a wonderful, comfortable vehicle. It drives almost as well as my Porsche 968 cab, but it’s considerably quieter & more comfy! The Bose stereo/navigation system is terrible and will be changed in the coming weeks. Make the effort if you have the chance to examine one.
