Test the security system’s activation by attempting a normal engine start (with push- button ignition switch). Note: If the security system is turned on, the engine won’t start. Deactivate or turn OFF the security system (unlock doors with Intelligent Key). Diagnose the situation further using ESM if it persists.

If a client reports that a vehicle’s Remote Engine Start (RES) feature “doesn’t work,” check to see if the system is configured correctly.
- There are no other Intelligent Keys (I-Keys) for the car inside or within “beginning” range.
- The operational range of the I-Key/key fob (key fob) is 197 feet or 60 meters.
- Show the key fob to the car.
- Activate the LOCK button.
- Within five (5) seconds of pushing the LOCK button, press and hold the RES button until the turn signal lights come on.
Before beginning any diagnostic work or replacing any parts, be sure to confirm the incident whenever a vehicle is used and the Remote Engine Start (RES) capability is having issues.
Refer to section 3 to have a better grasp of the RES system: Checks and modifications for before driving > Remote Engine beginning of the owner’s manual for the relevant car. Use the Supplemental RES Service Information and Supplemental Diagnosis Table (beginning on page 2) in addition to the ESM when diagnosing RES operation.
Valet Mode for the Remote Starter
You may find instructions for releasing your car from valet mode on the back of the Compustar remote control. Click the image to view it larger.
Symptoms: Pressing the Start button does not cause the car to start; however, the Lock and Unlock buttons function normally.
Causes: Usually when the remote is in a handbag or pocket, someone accidently pressed the sequence of buttons that puts the car into valet mode. In addition, a lot of remote car starts switch to valet mode when the car is detached for maintenance.
Any reliable remote auto starter should offer a valet mode of some kind. In this mode, the remote car starter can be used to disable remote starting while still enabling keyless entry and a few other features. When your car is being serviced, you would do this.
The majority of our remote starters enter valet mode by pushing two remote control buttons simultaneously for half a second. Find the correct buttons to press to enter and leave valet mode on the back of your remote control (often Lock+Trunk).
The parking lights need should flash twice when you push these buttons. Your car should be toasty and warm after you press the Start button!
Please be aware that several other brands’ dash-mounted “kill switches” will also achieve this. Customers frequently mistakenly hit this switch while driving on a regular basis, which triggers the remote starter to enter valet mode. Most of the time, this can be quickly fixed by just switching the switch in the opposite direction.
For details on how to enter and exit valet mode on your specific starter, please consult your owner’s handbook.

It is unlikely that the repair to the rear doors caused your remote start to cease functioning since the switch for the remote start is situated close to the hood latch. I’m not sure if you were able to overcome this problem. A couple words on remote starting though… The remote start won’t work if you have a second key in the car. When individuals complain that the remote start doesn’t work, I find that this is a typical occurrence. Additionally, make sure the remote start is activated by checking your settings. If this still doesn’t work, there’s a good probability your key fob is broken.
How can I activate the remote starter on my Nissan?
Your key fob’s lock button should be pressed. Simply hold the engine start button on your key fob for five seconds after pressing the lock button for the car to start.
Why won’t my Nissan Rogue remote start function?
Turning off the remote start feature on your automobile is one way to reset it. You simply need to remove the batteries from your key fob and wait at least 15 seconds before replacing it. Now verify that your key fob is operational.
Simply swapping or replacing the battery in your remote start is another way to reset it. Sometimes a faulty battery is to blame.
Last but not least, if the above two reset procedures don’t work, attempt the next steps:
- Close the driver’s side door after settling into the driver’s seat.
- On your key fob, hit the start button without using the brakes.
- Then, push the key fob’s lock button.
- Once more, hold down the start button for 5 seconds.
- Repeat the entire cycle a total of four times.
- You’ll hear a sound when choosing the Accessory position in the previous cycle. You are now in programming mode.
- For roughly 10 seconds, press the lock button.
- After you’re finished, turn the car off.
- It’s time to get out of the car and test the key fob, so shut all the doors.
- Call the customer care line if the remote doesn’t function any further.

Why does my remote start only function occasionally?
Symptoms: The vehicle does not respond when any button on the remote is pressed.
Cause: Although it rarely occurs, when it does, the vehicle’s dead battery or one that was detached during maintenance is usually to blame.
The non-volatile memory included in remote starts is typically used to store information like programming options and remote control codes. Like any “computer,” they occasionally run out of memory. Simply call the shop that installed it for you if this occurs. In some circumstances, they might be able to instruct you over the phone on how to reprogram it. Other times, a technician will need to program it while you’re back in the store. Anyhow, with higher-end remote starts, this is uncommon.
Why does my car remote not function after changing the battery?
The most typical fix for a broken key fob is a battery replacement. However, replacing the batteries may not always be the best course of action. Therefore, your key fob might not operate even after a battery change for various reasons.
Handling the key fob circuit carefully is the first step in fixing the issue. Do not use your bare hands to contact the key fob circuit if you are not familiar with handling electronics. Call a professional right away to quickly diagnose and resolve the issue.
The following are additional causes for the key FOB’s malfunction:
Over time, a car remote’s button will inevitably wear out. When the button is depressed, the contacts notify the circuit board to carry out commands. The contacts may become separated from the buttons as they deteriorate. Pressing the buttons repeatedly is one of the greatest techniques to identify worn-out car buttons on car remotes.
Determine which of the following circumstances applies:
- Only certain button presses, or all button presses, function.
- One button operates while the other does not.
There is a problem with the automobile remote if the plastic that covers the key fob has also cracked. Open the key fob using basic tools, then inspect it for damaged contacts or crooked buttons. In the event that doesn’t work, get a new automobile key fob.
Your car remote might not function after changing the battery for another cause, which is the lock. Look for these indications to determine whether the lock or auto door has become faulty.
- The lock does not open or lock when manipulated manually or with a key.
- Some door locks can be opened remotely, but not all.
- Without the doors opening, a signal has been transmitted, as indicated by the indicator light flashing.
- Door lock operates partially or not at all.
The automobile key may become damaged as a result of things like water, scratches, etc. The key fob may be damaged if it stops functioning right away after being trodden on, submerged in water, or opened. Other indicators to look out for include:
- Whether a backup key functions
- The buttons are stationary.
- The Key is clearly damaged.
A damaged key can be replaced with a new car key. The key fob can be reprogrammed with assistance from the Colorado Springs Locksmith specialists.
There is a good likelihood that the battery change reset a car remote. When certain buttons are pressed, the key fob can also be reset. Therefore, the failure of many key fobs is a good indication that the automobile key remote has been reset. There are two indicators to watch out for:
- No spare remotes operate.
- car remote completely quits functioning
What makes remote start malfunction?
Check the temperatures of your engine’s oil and coolant twice: Remote start is not functional if the oil pressure is too low or the engine coolant temperature is too high. Try starting the car again after letting it cool down for 5 to 10 minutes and checking the levels once more.
How do I use my Nissan Rogue key fob for remote starting?
The lowest S trim of the 2021 Nissan Rogue is the only one without remote start as a standard feature. This means that if you choose the SV or SL, either conventional or Hybrid, you will be able to remotely start your car to turn on the air conditioning on warm days or even get a jump start when you’re rushing out the door in the morning.
Your Nissan Rogue must have all doors closed and locked in order to activate remote start. On the key fob, first press the lock button. Hold down the engine start button for at least two seconds within the following five seconds. The engine and automatic climate control, both standard on the SV and SL trim levels, will start and operate for 10 minutes as a result.
Repeat the procedure using the key fob if you need to extend your startup time, and you’ll get an additional 10 minutes to get inside the car. Once into your Nissan Rogue, depress the brake pedal and engage the push-button ignition, and you’re ready to go.
How can I reset my remote car starting now that the battery has been changed?

- Lock the remote by holding down the button (s).
- Turn off the car in ten seconds.
- Shut the door, exit the vehicle, and then try the remote.
