The Nissan Note is a supermini/subcompacthatchback or a mini MPV that Nissan manufactures and markets internationally under the names Ri Chan noto and Nissan Noto. The first-generation Note was released in 2004 and was largely sold in Japan and Europe. It was made in Japan and the UK. The second-generation model was also sold in other markets, such as Thailand, where it is one of the B-segment hatchbacks the brand offers alongside the smaller March under the Eco Car tax program, and North America, where it was produced in Mexico and marketed as the Versa Note.
For the European market, the French-built K14 Micra took the role of the second-generation Note in 2017. 2019 saw the end of the Versa Note’s sales in North America as a result of the region’s declining interest in subcompact hatchbacks. It was still manufactured and sold in Japan up until the third-generation Note was unveiled in late 2020.
Late in 2016, the Note e-Power, a series hybrid version of the Note, was released. The third-generation Note is only offered with the e-Power drivetrain due to its popularity and the push toward electrification.
Honda Note (2005-2007)
In 2005 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the European model was presented, then in 2006 at the Geneva Motor Show.
Sale of retail models began in the spring of 2006. Four different engines were available in early editions (1.4L, 1.6L gasoline; 2 1.5L Diesel).
The Note was originally introduced to the market on March 1 in the United Kingdom. The vehicle is built on some of the same subframes as the Renault Modus and is intended to compete not only with the Modus but also with the Opel/Vauxhall Meriva and Citroen C3 Picasso. It is produced in Nissan’s facility in Washington, England, as a de facto replacement for the traditional medium-sized Almera hatchback, which Washington stopped producing in November 2006. The Tiida is the Almera’s direct replacement in Europe; however, it hasn’t been formally imported into the United Kingdom, despite being offered there since March 2009, when Arnold Clark dealerships began importing cars from the Republic of Ireland.
The S, SE, and SVE trim levels of the Nissan Note were previously offered. Full power windows, alloy wheels, front fog lights, and the Flexi-Board boot system were included in the base model. In the SE, 15-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, front fog lights, and a Flexi-Board boot were added. In the SVE, temperature control, rear privacy glass, 16-inch alloy wheels, and ESP were available. Since then, the Visia, Acenta, Acenta R, and Tekna have taken their place. The Visia is nearly identical to the previous “S” model, although the Acenta, Acenta R, and Tekna now include Bluetooth car stereo and an MP3 auxiliary connector as standard features. The Note is available in the UK in five different specifications: Tekna, Acenta, Visia, and Visia+. Four airbags, a single CD player, remote central locking, electric front windows, electric door mirrors, and a sliding back seat are standard on all versions. Similar Visia/Accenta/Tekna trim levels are used throughout the majority of the EU, while Nissan offered Note models with the Comfort, Luxury, and Tekna trim levels in Russia and the CIS. They resemble EU trims but only have two airbags in the base (comfort) as opposed to up to four in the Luxury/Tekna. There were no curtains at all, which would have protected the most valuable portion of the human body. Standard OBDII diagnostics, particularly software, are disabled in vehicles built for this market before 2009 for Nissan (only proprietary Consult III and compatible tools are capable to diagnose these cars).
Launch of the Nissan NOTE, a new global hatchback
At a world premiere held in Yokohama’s Osanbashi venue, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today presented the Nissan Note, a new worldwide compact automobile.
When the new Note goes on sale in Japan this fall, it will explore the full potential of tiny automobiles with a goal of being the most user-friendly vehicle in its class.
The Note combines cutting-edge engine technology, a lightweight platform, and better aerodynamics to deliver class-leading fuel efficiency and emission levels.
Nissan’s cutting-edge Around View Monitor (AVM), available in the new hatchback for the first time in a tiny car, reduces the stress associated with reverse and parallel parking in constrained places.
The Note’s distinctive front grille, headlamps, and rear combination lamps work together to create a sense of dynamism and refinement. The Note’s exterior also boasts a remarkable character line, known as the “Squash Line,” and an aerodynamic body shape.
The Note’s designers were able to create an interior that exceeds expectations for a vehicle in this class thanks to the updated body structure. The Note’s spacious and welcoming interior features a flowing line above the instrument panel that was inspired by sand ripples and adds to the interior’s high quality. This line also helps express the Note’s practicality and modernity.
Customers in Japan will be able to purchase two new engines, including the HR12DE, which won praise for its performance in the Nissan March, and the new supercharged HR12DDR (DIG-S).
The newly created three-cylinder supercharged, direct injection DIG-S engine offers a pleasurable driving experience and excellent fuel efficiency, achieving class-leading*1economy of 25.2 km/L (on JC08 mode)*2. It does this by combining the compact, lightweight next-generation XTRONIC CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) for all grades with an Idling Stop System for 2WD.
Shiro Nakamura, the chief creative officer of Nissan, discussed the background of the new Nissan Note and its launch at the Global Media Center on Monday.
Nissan has sold 940,000 units of the latest Note since its inception in 2005, making it an international success.
The new Note for the Japanese market will be produced at Nissan Motor Kyushu. The UK’s Sunderland facility for Nissan. will create models for Europe, with a 2013 release date scheduled.

The Nissan Note Is a Cooler Versa Hatch Than What We Will Get Here.
- For the Japanese market, Nissan has unveiled a new Note hatchback model.
- Previously, the Note was offered as the hatchback Versa in the United States.
- The new model is not anticipated to arrive in America.
Nissan stopped selling the Versa Note hatchback in the United States a few years ago, but the vehicle is still available overseas and has been updated for the Japanese market. The new Note has an intriguing design and a Nissan e-Power hybrid system that is probably going to arrive in America soon.
Although the new Note’s appearance won’t turn heads, what subcompact hatchback would?
—we believe it to be cooler than the Versa sedan that is now on sale on our soil. There are two-tone color options and elaborate sculpting on the front grille. A huge touchscreen, a digital gauge cluster, and a floating center console similar to the one in the 2021 Rogue dominate the cabin.
The e-Power hybrid drivetrain that comes standard on the Note primarily powers the vehicle with an electric motor while using a gasoline engine as a generator to charge the battery pack. Additionally, Nissan claims that an all-electric Note with front and rear electric motors for all-wheel drive would be available in December. All of this seems quite sophisticated when contrasted to the 1.6-liter inline-four and continuously variable automatic transmission found in the Versa sold in the United States.
Nissan is unlikely to introduce the Note to the US anytime soon, but upcoming Nissan and Infiniti cars here are anticipated to have the e-Power technology.

Nissan stopped producing the note when?
The Note’s diesel engine is inexpensive and affordable if you’re trying to save money, whereas Acenta Premium vehicles are well-equipped and only slightly more expensive on the used market.
The petrol engine of the Nissan Note is perfect for frequent, short trips, like the school run, and the Acenta Premium grade adds a number of convenience amenities, such a sat nav and sliding rear seat, as well as cutting-edge safety equipment.
Although the 1.2 DIG-S appears to be marginally faster on paper, the 1.5 dCi diesel engine feels forceful. Additionally, Tekna offers a sat nav, safety equipment, and an exterior with a sportier look. It is also quieter, inexpensive, and road tax-free.
The 1.2-liter petrol engine, which is the least powerful, is slow and thirsty. It doesn’t have air conditioning, alloy wheels, or steering-wheel audio controls when combined with Visia specification.
- 2013 Three engines are available for the debut of the latest Nissan Note (two 1.2-litre petrols and a 1.5-litre diesel)
- 2015 Notes manufactured between July 2013 and March 2014 are being recalled due to a potential engine push start switch issue.
- 2015 saw the introduction of the N-Tec trim level, which was based on the Acenta Premium but added a reversing camera and blind spot warning.
- 2017 Nissan Note production comes to an end when the new, bigger Micra is introduced.
Is a new Nissan Note on the way?
In contrast to the more expensive models, which have 16-inch alloy wheels with a sword-like design and four-point LED headlights, Nissan has pleasantly surprised us by releasing photographs of a lower-spec trim level with gorgeous 15-inch steel wheels with hubcaps. There are 13 colors available, some of which come in two-tone finishes.
The updated Note appears to give a lot of legroom for rear passengers despite having a smaller footprint than its predecessor as a result of transitioning to the new CMF-B underpinnings. With a digital instrument cluster and a sizable infotainment system in the form of a tablet, the interior has undergone a complete overhaul and modernization.
The cabin features cutting-edge technology including wireless charging and an automatic parking brake, and bears almost little resemblance to that of the previous model. The back seats recline depending on whether you want more space for passengers or to transport stuff, and those “Zero Gravity” seats appear to be extremely comfortable.
There won’t be a Note with a conventional motor because all variants are electric. The base model uses a hybrid configuration with a 1.2-liter gasoline engine with naturally aspirated combustion that works as a generator to power an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery. Nissan is mum about the system’s output, but according to Japanese media, the car now has 114 horsepower (85 kilowatts) and 280 Newton-meters (207 pound-feet) of torque.
The hybrid system has been made smaller and lighter at the same time by the engineers. With one electric motor driving the front axle and another driving the rear wheels, the Note also gets a fully electric model with all-wheel drive.
For the base model with front-wheel drive, the 2018 Note will start at 2,029,500 JPY (PS14,550) in Japan when it goes on sale on December 23.
