Nissan has been making the Nissan Kicks, also known as Ri Chan kitsukusu in Japanese and Nissan Kikkusu in Hepburn, since 2016. Nissan Kicks are built in India, right?
The Nissan Kicks was introduced in India in January 2019 to meet the demand for compact SUVs, which is expanding. The Kicks and the Renaut Captur both use the B0 platform as a foundation. The Nissan Kicks costs between Rs. 9.5 and Rs. 14.6 lakh and has a 1.5-liter petrol and diesel engine (ex-showroom). In order to compete in the market, Nissan India produces the Kicks at its plant in Chennai using a considerable amount of locally produced parts. The majority of parts are provided by Nissan’s overseas suppliers’ Indian subsidiaries.
The 1.5-liter, four-cylinder H4K petrol engine in the Nissan Kicks produces 104 horsepower and 142 Nm of torque. Elringklinger provides the engine cylinder head gasket, Johnson Electric provides the cooling fan module, and Calsonic Kansei manufactures the engine oil cooling system. While Vibracoustic makes the engine mounts and exhaust mounts for the Kicks, BorgWarner makes the Cooled EGR for the diesel engine.
The Kicks was designed with passenger safety in mind, using high strength steel extensively in its construction, an anti-intrusion bar for the pedals, and four airbags in the front of the cabin, including a driver and passenger airbag and two side airbags. Additionally, the Kicks has drum brakes in the back and disc brakes both up front with callipers from Akebono. Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and anti-lock braking systems (ABS) are included as standard equipment. The exceptionally comfortable and luxuriously padded seats are one of the Nissan Kicks’ interior highlights.
