Suzuki outboard motors are made both domestically and abroad at the Toyokawa Plant in the Japanese prefecture of Aichi. The 5PS outboard motor was the first product produced for export by Thai Suzuki Motor Co., Ltd. beginning in July 1999. At the moment, the Toyokawa Facility produces mid- and large-sized four-stroke outboard motors (from 40 to 300PS), whereas Thai Suzuki’s plant makes small- and mid-sized four-stroke (from 2 to 30PS) and two-stroke (from 9.9 to 40PS) outboard motors.

Are Mercury motors produced in China?
Mercury Marine, a Fond du Lac-based manufacturer of marine engines, has been awarded exemptions from 25 percent tariffs on its outboard engines made in China.
This Monday, Brunswick Corp., the company that owns Mercury, said that the U.S. Trade Representative office had granted the petitions.
As a result, a 25% import tariff that the United States had imposed on more than 1,000 products made in China no longer applies to Mercury engines from 40 to 60 horsepower that are made in China.
According to Brunswick, the exclusions will reduce its net pretax tariff impact in 2019 from an earlier estimate of $30 million to $35 million to roughly $17 million to $22 million.
The business also claims that the exclusions’ retroactive nature will increase its pretax earnings in 2018.
Both the U.S. Trade Representative office and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection organization accepted the exclusions.
In a statement, Brunswick Chairman and CEO Mark Schwabero stated, “We are thrilled that the USTR and CBP have approved the exception petitions for these classes of outboard engines, which are very popular choices for fishing and family boating activities.
“Both consumers and American producers benefit from it. We continue to believe that the U.S. and its trading partners can quickly and peacefully settle the trade concerns that resulted in the implementation of tariffs and subsequent retaliatory measures “said Schwabero.
President Donald Trump slapped high tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, Mexico, and the European Union in June. He also announced severe duties on aluminum imports from China.
