Overall, the 4Runner received a four-star rating from the NHTSA, with four stars for frontal crashes, five stars for side-impact collisions, and three stars for calculated rollover evaluation.

The IIHS concurs. In several crash tests, the 4Runner received “Good ratings, but the “Marginal in the driver-side small-overlap test, which mimics impact with an item like an approaching car or a utility pole, is worrisome. The IIHS also gave the 4Runner’s headlights a “Poor” rating.

If the information is taken at face value, there may be some amusing tidbits to share.

Second, it won’t come as standard equipment on all trims out of the box for the 2022 4Runner TRD Sport; rather, it will be included as part of an upgrade package. Other 4Runner trim levels were not mentioned, but they are undoubtedly possible and likely.

The 4Runner Technology Package is next. Because the Technology Package for the 2021 4Runner is not yet available, this is newsworthy.

It must be a brand-new feature intended to give 4Runner owners and potential buyers better security and convenience.

Will the Toyota 4Runner be able to get Blind Spot Monitor for 2022 on all trim levels, or just TRD Sport? Will BSM be a standard feature or an upgrade for the 4Runner Limited?

What else is included in the 4Runner Technology Package for 2022? I believe that rear cross-traffic alert and the natural coupling could be seen soon. Front and rear parking sonar may also be included, although I can only speculate at this point.

Will there be blind spot monitoring on the Toyota 4Runner in 2022?

The feature wasn’t there when I looked for it in the 2022 Toyota 4Runner brochure. Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA) and BSM were only indicated on the papers in one location. An available Technology Package for the TRD Sport variant includes RCTA and BSM. However, it appears that this is only a typo in the brochure and not a defect with the SUV.

Toyota recently issued a press statement stating that BSM was used in the production. Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Blind Spot Monitor are standard on most trim levels of the 2022 Toyota 4Runner. BSM and RCTA are available on the SR5 Premium, TRD Off-Road Premium, TRD Pro, and Limited. It is available with the Technology Package on the TRD Sport, as was already mentioned.

The measures are 9 cubic feet behind the third row, 46.3 cubic feet behind the second row, and a maximum of 88.8 cubic feet when the optional third-row seat is added.

You can choose for a movable cargo deck instead of the third-row seat option. The numbers are the same (except for the 9 cu.-ft. measurement, of course), but you get more usefulness. Up to 440 pounds can be supported by the cargo deck.

For the 4Runner, Toyota does not provide a motorized liftgate, but the rear window glass can be powered down to allow for better airflow inside the SUV and to transport lengthy objects when the liftgate is closed.
