After a 14-year hiatus, Toyota intends to bring the Camry nameplate back to the UK. The company’s D-segment product will transition from the retiring Avensis to the all-new, eighth-generation Camry Hybrid.
With the addition, Toyota will have eight hybrid cars available in Europe, ranging from the little Yaris to the large RAV4 SUV.
For 15 years running, the Camry has had the highest passenger car sales in North America. Toyota estimates that since the first Camry was debuted in 1982, global sales have reached almost 19 million units.
The new vehicle will include a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain made up of a 2.5-liter gasoline engine and a self-charging hybrid system, and it will be based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA). At the 2017 Detroit auto show, the TNGA platform-based Camry model for North America was presented.
A small glasshouse on the Camry’s exterior shows the model’s performance capabilities while a longer roofline increases total passenger capacity. Is the Toyota Camry sold in the United Kingdom?
