Prior until 2023, all Supra models came standard with rear-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission; this year, a six-speed manual transmission is finally offered, although only in conjunction with the optional turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine. Our long-term 2020 Supra 3.0 (with the eight-speed automatic) recorded some incredibly amazing acceleration times at the test track, reaching 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and 100 mph in 9.5 ticks. That puts it up against cars like the BMW M2 Competition, Porsche Cayman GTS, and Chevy Camaro SS in the major leagues. In fact, it accelerates more quickly than the renowned fourth-generation Supra, which had an inline-six engine with 320 horsepower that was sequentially turbocharged. The Supra’s suspension is accommodating enough to drive on a daily basis despite its performance capability. Its accurate, finely weighted, and direct steering adds to its fun-to-drive appeal. At our test track, the less expensive four-cylinder variant ran a swift 60 mph in 4.7 seconds. That beats the BMW Z4, the Supra’s German cousin, which scored a 5.0-second time to 60 mph. The ease with which our long-term Supra became bogged in the snow was the only drawback we discovered with its performance.

The Toyota Supra is back, and for 2023, a manual transmission will be an option for the first time. This is the moment we’ve all been waiting for. For the 2019 model year, a variety of further changes to the suspension and interior are included with the six-speed gearbox, which is only available with the 382-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine.
The previous Supra is it automatic?

The vehicle had two gearbox choices: a standard 5-speed manual transmission (W50) or an optional 4-speed automatic transmission (A40D). An overdrive gear was present in both gearboxes. The automatic transmission had an overdrive gear that would engage at speeds over 56 km/h, whereas the highest gear in the 5-speed transmission was its overdrive gear (35 mph). With the exception of the bigger F series (and optional Limited Slip Differential) in the MA46 and MA47 versions, the Supra’s drivetrain was unchanged from the Celica’s T series solid rear axle arrangement. The vehicle also had a four-link rear suspension with coil springs, a lateral track bar, and a stabilizer bar, as well as standard 4-wheel disc brakes. A stabilizer bar and MacPherson struts made up the front suspension.
Power windows and power locks were available as part of the convenience package for the Supra’s interior. Along with cruise control and unique door decor with door pull straps, the convenience package also offered an optional sunroof. Standard features included a flip-top armrest with storage and an extendable map lamp in the center console. The tilt steering wheel, large zippered pockets on the backs of the front seats, and a tonneau cover beneath the liftback were additional features. Why are Supras so hard to find?
A 1994 Toyota Supra manual twin-turbo that was in brand-new, factory-condition, recently for an astounding $121,000 at auction. Although that price is unlikely to become the standard, it does firmly establish the Supra as a six-figure car. Why then did this specific Supra command such a premium price?
For starters, it’s a vintage collectible that still contains all of its original parts. This Supra has all the original equipment, right down to the cassette tape/CD player, including the distinctive rear spoiler, its original aluminum alloy wheels and Bridgestone Potenza tires, and the mint tan leather seats. Additionally, it has only 7,000 kilometers on it, which is unusual for a car this old. The car’s rarity is increased by the fact that it was also unmodified; Supras from this generation were frequently modified and customized, making the unaltered versions difficult to find.
