The JDM versions of the BRZ and GR 86 were unveiled at a joint press conference conducted by Subaru and Toyota on Monday morning in Japan, following the global debut of the new 2022 BRZ in North American specifications last November.
Although we have already seen the BRZ, Subaru has released a multitude of photographs and a video showing the Japanese market BRZ, which, save from the position of the steering wheel, is nearly identical to the model we will see in the United States.
The same 2.4-liter flat-four engine that powers the U.S.-spec vehicle is used, although it is somewhat more powerful, producing an extra 4 HP at 232 HP (235 PS/173 kW) and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) of torque. The boxer engine of the BRZ has a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission option, just like its Toyota twin.
