Vehicle Stability Control, or VSC as it is commonly known, is the stability control system used in Toyota automobiles. By lowering or eliminating the power provided to your wheels, stability control aids in the maintenance of traction and control in your vehicle. By automatically providing brake pressure to up to three wheels, it achieves this. The system’s main objective is to keep your car traveling in the direction of its wheels. Since 2012, at least in the USA, it has become a necessary safety requirement. Naturally, VSC OFF denotes that your Toyota’s stability control is turned off.

VSC Light Easy Fix
Depending on the model year of the Toyota, a button with the same icon as the light in your gauges will be located either next to your shifter or next to your steering wheel. When you’ve found it:
- Ensure that you have come to a complete stop. If you can, put the car in park.
- For a few seconds, hold down the VSC button.
- The indicator lights for TRAC OFF and VSC OFF will turn on. Now both systems are off.
- Once more, press the VSC button. As soon as both lights go out, the systems are back in operation.
If the VSC OFF light is still on, there can be a glitch in your car’s computer or a problem with the VSC system. Bring your car to a Toyota service location near you so a qualified technician can check the codes and identify the problem. Although it is safe to drive your Toyota even with the VSC OFF light on, we advise caution, especially in bad weather.

Where is the button to turn the VSC off?

What does Toyota Sequoia’s TRAC OFF signal mean?
Traction control is disabled, according to the “TRAC OFF Indicator.” To avoid wheelspin and additional downshifting, the traction control is turned on and off by the TRAC system. Press and release the button fast to turn off the TRAC system. The TRAC OFF signal should activate. To restart the system, press the switch once again.
What does a 2003 Toyota Sequoia’s VSC stand for?
Toyota announces a voluntary recall on 2003 Sequoia models in order to upgrade the vehicle stability control system’s program logic.
California, TORRANCE, April 28, 2010
To update the program logic in its Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system, Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., today announced it will undertake a voluntary safety recall on some 50,000 early-model-year Toyota Sequoia sport utility vehicles.
The front or rear tires slipping during a turn can lead to a loss of traction, which the VSC system can help manage. Without the upgrade, the VSC system in some vehicles could, in rare circumstances, activate at low speed (about 9 mph) for a few seconds following acceleration from a stopped position, which could cause the vehicle to accelerate more slowly than the driver would have anticipated. As a result of this condition, no accidents or injuries have been documented.
When this problem was discovered for the first time in the fall of 2003, Toyota implemented a running production change during the 2003 model year and released a Technical Service Bulletin to fix it. Since then, Toyota has replaced the Skid Control Engine Control Unit (ECU) in Sequoias affected by this issue in response to specific owner concerns. About half of the 50,000 or so vehicles affected by this recall have already received warranty repairs.
Chief Quality Officer for Toyota North America, Steve St. Angelo, stated: “Toyota is dedicated to actively looking into customer concerns and acting fast when we discover problems with our vehicles. So that as many 2003 Sequoias as feasible can be serviced to the complete satisfaction of our customers, we are voluntarily initiating this recall.”
Toyota will start issuing notices to all 2003 Model-Year Sequoia owners affected by this recall in late May, including owners of previously serviced vehicles. Customers should mail a copy of their repair order to Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., Toyota Customer Experience, WC 10, 19001 South Western Avenue, Torrance, CA 90509 for consideration of reimbursement if they already paid to replace the Skid Control ECU for this specific condition prior to receiving a letter.
How do you turn off the Toyota VSC light?
Try resetting the VSC light as an easy remedy. Maybe the VSC light was merely intermittently on due to some issue. Try these to try to reset your VSC light:
- Put the gear in Park and come to a stop.
- Search for the VSC button. Depending on the model of your car, it may be at the steering wheel or behind it, although it is frequently close to the gear stick.
- For a few seconds, press and hold the VSC button.
- The TRAC OFF and VSC OFF indication lights will now turn on, as you can see. The VSC system and traction are both currently disabled.
- For a second, press the VSC button once more. The systems are now reengaged as the TRAC and VSC lights both disappear.
If this doesn’t solve the issue, you should examine the trouble codes and conduct proper troubleshooting. If you don’t have the skills to do it yourself, take your car to a shop.
My VSC and TRAC off light is on, why?
Is your dashboard decorated for the holidays? It’s easy and inexpensive to fix the check engine and VSC lights. It’s significant to note that this article only applies to Toyota 4runners of the 4th generation (20032009) that have these precise diagnostic codes. It’s possible that many other automobiles also experience this problem frequently, but you’ll need to validate it. Soon, we’ll discuss how to go about doing that.
When a check engine light is activated by an error code, the “VSC Off” and “VSC TRAC lights frequently illuminate. It doesn’t imply that there is a problem with those systems necessarily. If they all appeared at once, it’s likely that determining what set off the Check Engine light will take care of them all.
Modern OBD2 vehicles, especially the 4runner, can be extremely sensitive to seemingly insignificant issues. A common cause of these 4runners acting as though the end of the world is imminent is a loose gas cap.
In my situation, I recalled that the previous time I filled up, it was late at night, and that I was fumbling with the tether cable on the gas cap. I had a good chance of failing to get the cap to click properly. This was the deciding factor for me to cut off that ridiculous chord. I had a feeling that was the problem, but I needed to be certain.
When the VSC light is on, can I drive?
Can I drive my car if the vsc light came on two days ago? It won’t hurt you to drive, but the vehicle’s stability control system won’t work.
My traction control light won’t turn off; why?
once you have successfully freed your vehicle from the traction control,
There are several probable explanations for why your traction control light won’t turn off. The most frequent cause is that you’re trying to drive on slick ground. Even if you are not physically aware of the road being slightly slick, the traction control sensors are designed to monitor even the tiniest slippage and may illuminate the dashboard icon. Until the car has adequately accelerated and regained full traction, the indicator will typically momentarily flash.
How do you turn off a TRAC light?
If you push the TRAC OFF button, which is probably found on the left side of the steering wheel, you will see the TRAC OFF light appear on your Toyota dashboard. Whether you intentionally or unintentionally hit the button, it disables the traction control and/or vehicle stability control systems in your car. The VSC indicator has the word OFF and the image of a car sliding.
When should you turn off TRAC?
You might need to turn off TRAC or VSC if your Toyota becomes stuck in mud or snow. When you’re stuck, the systems could restrict the amount of power going from the engine to the wheels, which is not ideal. It may be simpler to rock your car out of the mud or snow if the systems are disabled. You only need to press the TRAC OFF button to turn it off. When your dashboard displays the TRAC OFF indicator, you will know you were successful. Just press the button once more to turn it back on.

On a Toyota Sequoia, how do you deactivate 4WD?
Find the 4WD knob on a Toyota Sequoia and turn it to the 4L position to disable four-wheel drive. When you deactivate the four-wheel drive in your car, the 4LO and VSC OFF lights should illuminate. You may now reduce your gas use and drive more comfortably!
